Chapter 109 Rhea’s Guess
Could it be…
Finished
Rhea couldn’t see Demi’s stomach through the phone, but a thought crept in. Was she planning to use that baby to hold Nevin hostage?
Then again, Rhea knew Demi too well. That woman was proud and stubborn. She always stood by her word. She wasn’t the type to play dirty.
“I hate…”
Orion’s voice shook. He wanted to finish that sentence. He wanted to say he hated Demi. But his lips froze. He didn’t dare go on.
He remembered what happened the last time he said it. That was the day she walked out on them.
“If that’s all, I’m done here.”
Maybe Demi used to care. Maybe she used to worry shed break the kid’s heart.
But now? Not anymore.
Even that last trace of motherly instinct was gone.
Rhea had only meant to use Orion to rattle Demi a little. She hadn’t expected that woman to feel nothing at all.
“Rhea … Mom doesn’t want me anymore…
Orion choked out the words and broke down, burying his face into her shoulder.
Rhea held him tight, eyes flashing. “Don’t cry, baby. Well go to your dad. She’s way out of line. What kind of mother walks away from her own kid? That’s just cruel!
She scooped him into her arms and walked straight out of the office. Her eyes swept across the coworkers nearby, sharp as a blade.
She held Orion like a trophy, chin high, tossing smug glances at everyone who dared to look.
Once the elevator doors shut behind her, she let out a slow breath and hugged him tighter. The victory felt
sweet.
Two sharp knocks broke the silence.
“Come in.”
“Mr. Blackwell, Orion just finished a video call with Demi…”
Rhea walked in with Orion in her arms. He was getting heavy. She adjusted him awkwardly, trying not to show it. She paused, tempted to trash-talk Demi right there.
But something told her to hold it in.
Orion didn’t say anything. His mood was in the gutter. He didn’t even look at Nevin. He just lay on Rhea’s shoulder, sulking.

He was six. The boy was no longer a tiny baby. Holding him wasn’t easy.
Nevin stood and reached for the boy, but Orion wouldn’t budge.
“It’s fine, Mr. Blackwell.”
Rhea shifted to keep Orion resting more comfortably on her shoulder.
Nevin frowned. He’d seen her hesitate earlier. Demi must’ve said something that really cut the kid deep.
He gave Rhea a small nod, a quiet signal to keep taking care of Orion.
He’d already decided to talk to payroll about giving her a little bonus.
Orion, after crying himself out, finally dozed off.
Rhea’s arms were numb, but she didn’t complain. She held on, convinced this struggle would pay off later.
“Mr. Blackwell, he’s asleep. We should take him home,” she stepped up to his desk and spoke softly. Her voice came out light and sweet, almost like she meant for it to linger.
Nevin looked up from his work. Their eyes met. Hers were warm.
