Back when Demi was still around, everything-inside the house and out-was handled by her alone, from start to finish.
Helga had been someone Demi brought in herself, and Nevin trusted her, at least enough to leave Orion in her care.
“I’ll make sure Mr. Orion is well taken care of, sir,” Helga said quickly.
The Blackwells weren’t like most rich families. They didn’t have a mountain of rules, and the paycheck was generous. Helga had no complaints about the job.
“Ms. Dunn. We’ve got a late night. Come back to the office with me.” Nevin shut the door behind him as he said it.
He had let too much pile up these past few days. Tonight, he was finally ready to clear it all.
So-
People at Blackwell Group couldn’t help but notice. Nevin dropped Orion off with Rhea, and then he and Rhea went right back to the office together, Their comings and goings were hard to miss, and even harder not to gossip about.
At Snow Group, Demi’s phone buzzed again. It was another message from that same mysterious sender, with a photo attached.
She didn’t even bother opening it. Not anymore.
At One Studio, Demi had Angel working under her now and it took a lot off her plate.
For the less important projects, Demi would sketch the rough draft and have Angel color it in. It saved her
hours.
Angel wasn’t bad, either. The girl had some real talent. Demi usually only needed to polish up the finer points.
Eventually, Angel figured out who she was really working for. Demi was “Artemisia,” the famous international illustrator. The moment she realized it, sh nearly lost her mind.
“Demi-”
That morning, Angel practically lit up when she saw her She came in holding coffee, her eyes bright.
Ever since she heard from Phoebe who Demi really was she had gone full fangirl.
She started showing up with coffee and breakfast every morning, trying to get close. But Demi had a crazy schedule. Most days, she only showed up for a few hours, and sometimes not even that.
And every time Angel tried to be friendly, Demi shut it down cold.
The second she heard her name, Demi’s brows pulled tight. “Call me Ms. Snow, Ms. Porter.”
Her voice was sharp, no room for warmth.

Angel gave an awkward little laugh but didn’t seem bothered. People always said the gifted ones had their moods.
Besides, they hadn’t even spent a full day together in total.
A cold edge flashed in Demi’s eyes. It wasn’t about putting Angel in her place.
It was that name-“Demi.” That name pulled Rhea right into her head.
That was the first time she had ever been betrayed like that. It left something behind.
“This one’s off. The base color’s wrong.”
Time was tight. Demi pulled out the piece Angel had worked on and pointed out the mistakes using clear, professional terms.
Angel focused hard. Just a few words from Demi showed her things she hadn’t seen herself.
Demi was almost finished when she realized Angel was finally starting to get it. She caught herself too late.
She hadn’t meant to explain that much. But her old habit had kicked in.
“I think that’s enough. Practice more on your own.”
