Chapter 111 Back to Work

That quick bit of feedback had really helped her.

That was why Demi was the one she always admired.

Right after Angel left, Phoebe came over with her sketch pad and asked Demi for some input.

Over the past few years, Phoebe had snagged a handful of awards and built a solid reputation in the industry.

But none of her pieces had made it onto the international stage yet. That was still her ultimate goal.

They both sat down in the office. Demi kept sketching out a few rough designs while Phoebe focused on polishing her concept.

Demi offered the occasional thought or tip from the side.

A sudden choking noise broke the calm in the room.

Demi covered her mouth and bolted, barely making it out before running right into Angel.

“Demi, are you-”

Angel blurted the words before she even realized it.

But just hearing her voice seemed to make Demi even more nauseous.

Angel froze in surprise, then followed her into the restroom.

More retching followed. Wet, loud, and painful.

Angel stood outside, wide-eyed, listening. Something clicked in her mind.

Could Demi be… pregnant?

“Angel, go focus on your own work,” Phoebe said as she taught up and stepped past Angel. She gently rubbed Demi’s back.

Angel wanted to stay and check in, but she and Demi weren’t close enough for that.

The sink faucet ran for a while.

Demi rinsed her mouth. Her face was pale, and her whole body looked drained.

Phoebe looked at her, clearly worried. “Demi, maybe we should head to the hospital?”

She looked absolutely wiped out. No color in her face at all.

Demi gave a faint nod. It had been several days since her last prenatal check anyway. Still…

“I’ll try to get an appointment sometime in the next day or so.”

“Okay,” Phoebe said. “Call me when you do. I’ll go with you.”

“Alright.”

Demi didn’t argue. Phoebe had her hands full too, but there was no reason to turn down her best friend’s

support.

“Do you feel like eating anything? I’ll send someone out

Demi shook her head. Lately, she’d been too buried in the divorce to even feel this awful. Now the nausea was worse than ever.

She didn’t want anything.

Sometimes she’d suddenly crave something, but by the time it arrived, the craving was gone and her stomach couldn’t take it.

This pregnancy was rougher than the last. Back when she was carrying Orion, she couldn’t stop eating. Everything had tasted amazing.

Her thoughts drifted. She kept getting pulled back into old memories.

Phoebe slipped an arm around her and walked her back That pulled her out of it.

Demi’s brow furrowed for a second, then eased. Maybe she was just plain worn out.

Back in the office, Angel came over with a few questions Demi could feel her sneaking glances at her belly, lips parting like she wanted to ask something.

Demi ignored it all.

Blackwell Group.

Nevin had been buried in files for almost two hours.

Without thinking, he reached toward the side of the desk. That was where a fresh cup of coffee usually sat, swapped out hourly by his assistant.

Back when Demi was still here, she was the one who always brought it.

He didn’t look up. His hand moved on its own and lifted the.cup. But this time, the taste wasn’t familiar.

This wasn’t coffee.

It was her honey ginger tea.

Demi had started making it after she found out his stomach didn’t handle coffee well. She’d tracked down some old recipe and made it herself.
