Roderick didn’t want Demi stressing over work. He just wanted her home, resting, taking care of herself and the baby.

But when he dropped her off that first day, he had no idea she was pregnant. And now that she had stepped up and taken control, it didn’t feel right for her to just walk away.

At the Blackwell Group building, Nevin sat in his office.

He glanced at the security feed and saw Demi curled up napping during her break.

There was a gap in her calendar. One free hour. So, he dropped onto his own office couch.

His body was at its limit. He hadn’t slept properly in days.

The office door creaked open a moment later. Someone slipped inside quietly, like they didn’t want to be

heard.

Rhea stepped in. Her eyes locked onto Nevin, sound asleep. She stared at him like he was her reward.

The AC was running. The air was cool, but she didn’t move. She just stood there, watching the way the light hit Nevin’s face.

Demi would never find out what happened the day she hired Rhea. Because the second Rhea saw Nevin, everything changed.

She had fallen. Completely.

Back then, during those first few months, Rhea looked up to Demi like she was family. Someone she owed forever.

But after she met Nevin, that gratitude twisted into something ugly. Jealousy. Envy.

She hated how unfair it all was. Demi already had it all. She was stunning, brilliant, confident.

And on top of that, she was married to the president of the company. The heir to Blackwell Group. And he looked like a perfect statue.

Every time Rhea saw him, she felt so small it made her sick.

But Demi built her up. Little by little.

She gave Rhea designer bags. Took her shopping. Taught her how to do her makeup and carry herself.

It was Demi who brought her into Nevin’s world. It was Demi who gave her the chance to get close to Orion. Demi gave her everything she needed to climb.

Rhea glanced at Nevin’s mouth. Something stirred inside her. She wanted to kiss him.

She had seen Demi do it. Demi would come by, lean down, kiss him before she left.

Nevin always frowned like he was annoyed.

Rhea thought he was sick of her. But every time Demi pouted, he gave in. He always kissed her back.

And every time, Rhea’s stomach twisted. She didn’t even know when she had started imitating Demi.

But she never crossed the line. There were cameras in the office. So instead, she picked up a jacket from the side, leaned down, and draped it over Nevin’s chest.

He didn’t move. Didn’t flinch. He was dead asleep.

She knelt there for a second, then stepped away and stated flipping through folders.

But every few seconds, she looked back. Like he already belonged to her.

“Demi, go find that dress for me…”

Nevin muttered the words in his sleep. Rhea’s heart jumped into her throat. Then she realized he was dreaming. He had said Demi’s name. Her eyes turned cold.

That’s fine.

He’s just used to her taking care of everything.
