Demi would never forget the day Orion told her that everything she did was for her own sake. Every bit of love and sacrifice she had made was her way of using him to make herself look good.
Even though she knew those poisonous words came from Rhea, they still tore her apart.
Phoebe wasn’t sure if Demi was just venting or truly meant what she said. “Come on, Demi,” she tried to comfort her. “He’s your son. You carried him for nine months and raised him for six years. Don’t push things so far that you’ll regret it later.”
“Six years,” Demi said softly, her voice choked. “You’re right. Six years of feeding him, caring for him, doing everything for him.”
Those years flashed through her mind like an old film.
Orion’s first words, his first time calling her, the way he used to cuddle in her arms and kiss her cheek. saying she was his favorite person in the world.
A tear slid down Demi’s face before she could stop it. It soon disappeared into her shirt.
“Six years,” she whispered, “and I raised him to be someone else’s perfect little boy. I already regret it.”
Not wanting Phoebe to see her break down, Demi turned to the window, her gaze unfocused.
The bond between her and her son–once strong and full of warmth–snapped in that moment, clean and final.
Blackwell Villa.
Nevin dragged Orion back into the house, his grip firm and angry.
“Dad.” Orion sniffled, finally realizing how bad things had gotten. “Is Mom really mad at me this time?”
Nevin’s expression stayed cold. He didn’t answer, but the silence was heavier than any words.
Orion couldn’t tell if he was scared or just afraid that his mother didn’t want him anymore. He kept wiping his tears, but the more he wiped, the more they fell, like they would never stop.
“Mom doesn’t want me anymore, does she?”
Orion sobbed, gasping for air. “I’m sorry, Mom. I didn’t mean it. Waaa!”
He cried so hard his little body shook.
Orion hadn’t wanted to hurt her. He was just angry–hurt and out of control. He’d grabbed whatever things he could reach and smashed them without thinking. Orion never wants to hurt her.
He wanted to explain all that.
But when he looked up at Nevin, he couldn’t say a word.

Dad must think he’s a terrible kid. After all, Mom told him to leave and told Dad to take him away. It was clear; she didn’t want him. For that reason, he started to throw things at her.
“Dad, can you please bring Mom back?” Orion begged, tugging hard on Nevin’s sleeve. “I’ll be good, I promise! I’ll study hard, I’ll do all my math homework, and I won’t be lazy anymore. Please…‘
Nevin’s brows furrowed. He crouched down to meet his son’s eyes. Nevin said firmly, “I’ll call her now. But from this moment on, no more crying, okay?”
Orion’s voice was already hoarse from crying for so long. His face was still pale from being sick.
He sniffled. “Okay. Just make Mom come back.”
Nevin stood up. He walked a few steps away and turned slightly to keep Orion in sight as he pulled out his phone.
Demi was on her way to the hospital. She glanced at the caller ID and hesitated for a long time before she answered.
“Demi, Orion said he knows he was wrong. He didn’t mean to hurt you-”
“I don’t want to hear it,” Demi cut him off, her tone flat. “Anything else?”
“Orion really misses you.” Nevin said quickly. “He just got over his fever. Now, he’s been crying so hard he can barely talk. Can’t you at least come back-”
“No.”
Demi gave a short sneer. “And come back for what? To take care of him? I’m not a doctor. If he’s sick, take him to the hospital. If he needs someone to look after him, get him Rhea. You two seem to like her best anyway.”
Nevin’s voice turned cold. “You’re seriously jealous right now? After everything that’s happened?”
He thought she was still upset about Rhea, but Demi was simply done trying to explain; talking to him was pointless.
“Go find Rhea,” she said tiredly. “Orion loves her more than anyone.”
Her voice was calm but sharp. “Every time he was upset and hated me for making him study, Rhea was the one who could make him laugh. I’m sure she can do that now too.”
