Chapter 25 A Call from the Trashboy
Nevin didn’t say a word. He just rubbed Orion’s head gently, trying to comfort him.
“Go to sleep. When you wake up …
Finished
He paused, thinking of Demi’s cold voice on the phone, and didn’t finish the sentence. He tucked Orion into bed, helped him take off his jacket, and watched as the boy slowly drifted off.
Even in sleep, Orion looked uneasy.
Nevin stood there for a moment. He asked Helga to keep a close eye on him before heading out.
He drove straight to the office.
Back in his office, Nevin handed a court summons to Joe.
“Send this to the legal department,” he said flatly. “Tell them to delay the court hearing as long as possible. Do whatever it takes to stop it.”
Joe froze. As someone who had seen his share of corporate storms, he rarely got this shocked.
Mrs. Blackwell is suing for divorce?
Why now?
Their son is already six. Everything seemed fine.
As the confusion cleared, Joe’s thoughts landed on one name–Rhea.
Maybe Nevin couldn’t see it, blinded by being too close to the situation. But Joe, as an outsider, had watched it unfold clearly.
He’d watched Rhea change over the years. She had started as a regular employee, then rocketed up the ladder after Demi began mentoring her personally. Her skills improved fast, and so did her salary.
When Mrs. Blackwell decided to step away from work to focus on family, Rhea began copying her–her way of talking, dressing, and even her habits.
And before long, she wasn’t just in Mrs. Blackwell’s position at the company; she’d taken her place in the boss’s life too.
Over the years, even Joe had noticed how Nevin treated Rhea differently.
But …
He glanced at his boss, wanting to tell him that his behavior toward Rhea had crossed the line.
But he kept his mouth shut.

After all, he was just an assistant.
Finished
A man in his position didn’t get to comment on the private life of a CEO. And even if Nevin did have feelings for Rhea, that wasn’t something an outsider like him could judge.
And honestly, how could he really know whether his boss had feelings for Rhea?
“Alright, I’ll get this handled right away,” Joe said, keeping his tone steady. He didn’t want to get dragged into Nevin’s family drama. Grabbing the court summons, he left the office to make the legal arrangements.
At the hospital.
With Phoebe’s help, Demi had already gone through X–rays and had her wound cleaned and bandaged.
The doctor studied the images and said, “It’s nothing serious–just a small blood vessel rupture, some swelling, and a shallow cut from the glass. Still, I’d suggest you rest for two or three days.”
“Got it, thank you, doctor. We’ll stay in the hospital for observation,” Phoebe replied before Demi could protest. She turned to her friend. “Come on, let’s get you into a private room.”
Demi opened her mouth to refuse.
The medicine was already working, and the pain was fading.
She didn’t want to waste time lying in bed–especially when her design sketch had just been destroyed. She needed to redo it before the show deadline.
But Phoebe knew exactly what she was thinking. Without giving her a chance to argue, she all but dragged Demi into a VIP ward.
“Enough,” Phoebe said firmly. “Your health comes first. The show can wait a few days. It’s not the end of the world.”
Demi was obsessed with the upcoming show. Phoebe could only shake her head and laugh.
Once Demi finally settled in, Phoebe went to grab some food for her.
Phoebe knew Demi’s taste well enough. She didn’t bother asking what she would like; Phoebe just drove straight to their favorite restaurant after leaving the hospital.
