Nevin stayed quiet. He looked at Orion, whose little face was still red and weak even after the fever had broken. In his eyes, Demi was heartless.

“I woke up so many times…”

Orion’s tears fell with a soft plop. “She just won’t forgive me. Why can’t Mom forgive me? I only said a few mean things. She shouldn’t be mad at a kid.”

Nevin frowned and asked Helga to bring a bowl of grits. He sat down and fed Orion himself.

After he ate some, the boy’s eyes started to droop. He drifted back to sleep.

He stood up to leave but then heard his son mumbling in his sleep. “Mom is so heartless. Why can’t she be like Rhea?”

Nevin’s eyes

darkened. He didn’t say a word as he walked out of the room.

Around four in the afternoon, Demi signed her discharge papers.

With a heavy heart, she drove back to her parents’ house.

The familiar road brought a flood of memories. When her eyes caught sight of that mansion at the end of the lane, her throat tightened and her eyes filled with tears.

Seven years…

She had stormed out of that house all those years ago, swearing she’d never come back. And now, seven years later, here she was again.

Snow Mansion.

The moment Demi’s car stopped at the gate, the sound drew the attention of the maid in the living room. As Demi stepped out of the car, Anne Lupton immediately recognized her.

“Ms. Demi’s back! Oh my, Ms. Demi-you’re finally home!”

Anne’s eyes reddened as she shouted up the staircase, her voice trembling with excitement. “Mr. Snow! Mrs. Snow! Ms. Demi’s home!”

“Hi, Anne,” Demi greeted softly.

Before she even stepped fully inside, Carol came rushing down the stairs.

The two locked eyes halfway up the staircase. Both broke into tears.

“Mom.” Demi choked out the word.

“Oh, sweetheart,” Carol said, her voice shaking. “You’re finally home.”

She wrapped her daughter in a tight embrace, her hands trembling as she looked her over from head to toe. Seven years. Her little girl had grown into a woman.

“Mom, I’ve been such a bad daughter,” Demi whispered, guilt filling her eyes. She had left without a word back then, never thinking how her parents must’ve felt.

Carol wiped her tears and smiled gently. “You’re home now. That’s all that matters. The past is

over.”

As the two women held onto each other, years of distance melted away. Carol sniffed, then pointed upstairs with her chin. “Your father’s in his study. He’s been pacing around ever since he heard you were coming. He didn’t even know what to do with himself.”

Demi hesitated for a moment, then quietly walked upstairs. She knocked once before pushing open the study door.

“Dad…”

Roderick Snow didn’t turn around. “Hmph. You’ve got some nerve coming back. Weren’t you the one who said you were leaving? Then go. Why come back now?”

He kept his back to her, pretending he didn’t want to see her.

But the way his hand trembled around the mug he was holding gave him away completely.

Demi’s eyes turned red as tears welled up. Without hesitation, she walked forward and hugged her father.

“Dad, I’m sorry. I know I was wrong.”

Roderick’s hands trembled. He turned, staring at his daughter. Tears streaming down her face. The once proud, stubborn girl was pleading for his forgiveness after seven long years.

His lips quivered. “Did that Blackwells brat hurt you?”

Demi’s throat tightened. She shook her head.

She didn’t say a word-only silent tears fell, one after another.

Roderick’s stern expression darkened with anger. “Did that guy treat you badly?”
