Roderick wore a look of innocence. He hadn’t even said anything to upset his daughter.
It was all that Blackwell brat’s fault!
“What do you want for dinner?” he asked. “I had Anne cook some of your favorite dishes, just the way you liked them before. If you want something else, just tell her.”
“The same as before is fine,” Demi said with a faint smile. “I’ve missed Anne’s cooking all these years.”
With Carol fussing nearby, the tension between Demi and Roderick slowly faded away.
“Demi,” Carol asked carefully, “what about your son?”
If it came down to it, they had both the means and the will to fight for Orion’s custody.
“Mom, about Orion … ”
Demi knew exactly what her mother was thinking the moment she spoke.
There was a time when she never imagined divorcing Nevin, never thought she’d be separated from her child.
But things changed.
The first one to turn away wasn’t her-it was Orion. And once she decided to end her marriage, she no longer planned to take him with her.
“I didn’t raise him right,” Demi said calmly.
There was no emotion in her voice now. “He doesn’t like me as his mom. And … ”
She paused and smiled faintly at her parents. “He’s a troublemaker. I don’t want him anymore.”
The scar on her forehead hadn’t even healed yet.
Roderick and Carol listened with heavy hearts.
They didn’t need to ask for details. They already knew this had something to do with Nevin.
“Who does he think he is?” Roderick slammed the table, his voice booming through the room. “He dares to bully my daughter? Does he think she doesn’t have a family to stand up for her?”
“Dad, calm down,” Demi said softly, walking over to pat his back.

“It’s over now. He’s not worth getting angry about.”
All she wanted was to get a divorce and never have anything to do with Nevin again.
“Let Demi handle it her way. You shouldn’t butt in,” Carol said, her eyes filling with tears.
As a mother who could never give up her child, Carol couldn’t even begin to imagine how much pain her daughter must’ve gone through.
Roderick’s jaw tightened. That scumbag had better pray he never regrets it.
The air in the study turned thick and heavy.
After a long pause, Roderick said, “Since Demi’s back, we’ll throw her a big party. I want to show everyone that my daughter isn’t someone you can mess with.”
Roderick was fuming, and Carol’s heart was burning with anger too.
Did people really think their daughter had no one behind her? That she was alone and helpless?
When Roderick suggested throwing a grand party to make a statement, Carol didn’t stop him. In fact, she agreed right away.
There was a time to stay quiet and a time to show strength. And this time, their daughter would stand in the spotlight. If anyone was going to be high-profile, it would be her.
“Mom, Dad, you really don’t have to throw a party for me,” Demi said softly. “You forgiving me is already more than enough.”
Roderick crossed his arms, his tone firm and fatherly. “It’s decided. Your mom and I make the
calls here.”
Carol rolled her eyes at him, then tugged gently on Demi’s arm. “Come on, you must be exhausted. Go rest in your room. If there’s anything you’re missing; I’ll have Anne bring it to you.”
Demi couldn’t stop them. Her parents had already made up their minds to spoil her. All she could do was quietly accept their love.
It warmed her heart.
As long as they were happy, that was enough.
The next day.
