“Mr. Blackwell, I failed to recognize you. It … it’s my fault. Everything that just happened was a misunderstanding.”
Bethany’s face also went pale. She pushed Arlo forward. “It’s just a little squabble between kids. What kid doesn’t get into fights? Arlo and your son are classmates.”
“Is that so?” Nevin ignored Bethany.
He could overlook her arrogance earlier.
Now, no matter how much she acted tough, Nevin couldn’t care less.
He pulled Orion toward the door. “You’re fired, effective immediately. Wait for HR to contact you.”
“Mr. Blackwell, please don’t! I know I was wrong. I’ll make my wife and son apologize.”
Lionel’s face went even paler. He grabbed Bethany and Arlo, trying to chase after them to apologize.
“Mr. Blackwell, we’re so sorry! Please give us another chance.”
Bethany hadn’t expected things to turn out this way.
Not only had her husband failed to stand up for them, but he’d also lost his high-paying, prestigious job.
Smack!
“This is for bullying your classmate and offending Orion! Get over there and apologize right now!”
Seeing that Nevin wasn’t budging, Lionel immediately slapped Arlo across the face and kicked him in the butt, forcing his son to apologize to Orion.
Orion looked at Nevin. He clearly didn’t want to forgive Arlo.
Nevin frowned. He knew Lionel was trying to play the sympathy card, but he wasn’t buying it. He said coldly, “Don’t make me bring in the company’s legal team.”
“I… I…” Lionel stood there helplessly, afraid to pester them further.

By the time he gathered himself to try apologizing to Orion again, Nevin and his son had already gotten into their car.
Soon after, Lionel received a message from HR.
“It’s over…”
He collapsed to the ground.
Inside the car, Nevin looked at Orion, who was hanging his head, and pressed him. “Didn’t I tell you not to lose your temper and that you’re not allowed to hit people?”
“He said I…”
“Said what?”
“He said…” Orion bit his lip, holding back tears pitifully. “Mom hasn’t been picking me up from school, and all the kids in class are saying Mom doesn’t want me anymore.”
Nevin fell silent, feeling his heart tighten.
“They also said I’m going to have a new mom.”
Orion lifted his arm to wipe his tears. “Arlo even said that Mom cheated on you and that’s why she doesn’t want me anymore. He said Mom’s going to have other kids and won’t want me.”
Orion’s eyes were full of tears. He looked up at Nevin with a pitiful, anxious expression.
Nevin wiped away Orion’s tears. “They’re making it up. I promise you, we’re not getting divorced, and Mom won’t have other children.”
“Really?” Orion sniffled. “Then when is Mom coming back?”
“Really.”
Nevin paused, his tone sounding like he was trying to convince himself too. “Mom will be back
very soon.”
Orion smiled at Nevin, though the tears on his cheeks hadn’t even dried yet.
Kids were like that-happy one moment, crying the next.
Nevin sighed inwardly. Demi had a heart of stone. He didn’t know how he was going to coax her back.
