Besides restoring the sketch that Orion had torn up, Demi had a burst of inspiration and created several more preliminary illustrations that would be ready for exhibition once finalized.

Wayne joked, “Sounds good. Sunday evening then. Your treat, and you owe me that drink.”

“I’d never forget your wine,” Demi said with amusement. Wayne had a taste for fine wine in his private time, usually enjoying expensive vintages.

After chatting a bit more, they each went back to their work.

At Blackwell Group, the court date was set for two weeks out. As executive assistant, Joe received the notification immediately.

“Mr. Blackwell, our people failed to delay the court date. The attorney pulled some strings at the courthouse and locked in the date for two weeks from now,” Joe reported while placing the court summons on Nevin’s desk.

Nevin looked

“Got it.”

  1. His dark eyes rested on the court summons for a full six or seven seconds.

Joe waited a few seconds. When no further instructions came, he left the office.

Nevin’s expression revealed nothing.

Even with the court summons in hand, he didn’t believe they would actually divorce.

So what if the hearing proceeded? The court wouldn’t necessarily grant the divorce.

Nothing was certain until the very end.

Still… Orion couldn’t find out about this.

Before, he hadn’t given it much thought. Demi had managed everything at home and elsewhere so perfectly that he never had to worry about Orion’s physical or emotional well- being.

Knock, knock.

“Come in.”

“Mr. Blackwell, I heard Orion hasn’t had much of an appetite lately. After work, would it be alright if I went and cooked something he’d enjoy?”

Rhea entered, her hair pulled back in a simple ponytail. Her fitted secretary outfit gave her a crisp, professional appearance, and her lips curved in a perfect smile.

At that moment, her eyes showed just the right amount of concern and sympathy for Orion.

Nevin stared at her, momentarily stunned. For a second, he seemed to see Demi in Rhea.

“Fine. I’ll pay you ten times your overtime rate.”

Thinking of Orion’s increasingly gaunt face, Nevin nodded.

Rhea’s smile widened.

She wanted to say he didn’t need to pay her overtime, that she was more than happy to take care of Orion.

But remembering that Nevin and Demi weren’t divorced yet, she knew she couldn’t be too

obvious.

Her little schemes couldn’t be revealed to Nevin just yet.

“Thank you, Mr. Blackwell.” Rhea turned to leave, then glanced back and asked, “Mr. Blackwell, will you be home for dinner?”

Nevin nodded after a slight hesitation.

With Demi not at home, if he didn’t go back either, Orion would probably fall apart.

Rhea left with satisfaction.

Nevin stared after her. Am I missing Demi?

Lately, every time he saw Rhea, he thought of Demi.
