Chapter 43 Too Close for Comfort
Warren’s instincts told him that Demi had probably already gotten dirt on him.
He didn’t move, and Demi didn’t rush him either. She waited with interest.
She said nothing, and no one else dared to make a sound.
Tick tock, tick tock.

The clock on the conference room wall ticked audibly. Demi’s presence seemed to fill the entire space.
Under her commanding aura, no one dared to even breathe too loudly.
“Ms. Snow, it’s been years since I’ve seen you. Let me take you out for lunch to welcome you to the company.”
Warren was an old hand. His grim expression faded, replaced by a genial smile.
As one of the old comrades who’d fought alongside Roderick to build the company, he’d had plenty of contact with Demi when she was young.
Demi smiled. “Mr. Crag, this is a gift I specially prepared for you. Won’t you open it and take a look?”
“Really? That’s thoughtful of you, but I don’t need anything. I appreciate your kindness.”
Warren pushed the folder away. “Ms. Snow, you just arrived at the company. There must be many projects you’re unfamiliar with. My department has the most complete records. I’ll have my secretary send them to you.”
“Oh, that would be wonderful. Thank you, Mr. Crag.”
Demi knew when to quit while she was ahead. Glancing at the old fox, she didn’t mention the folder again and moved on to other company matters.
By the time the meeting ended, that folder still hadn’t been opened.
Demi gathered her things and returned to her office.
Opening the folder, she found it only contained records of Warren’s achievements over the years. There was no incriminating evidence inside at all.
The other directors she’d fired had simply been caught embezzling company funds and taking
kickbacks.

She’d used them to make an example for Warren. So Warren hadn’t even dared to open his folder.
“Ms. Snow, Mr. Chase and the others have submitted their resignation letters and are waiting for you in the HR conference room.”
Lewis knocked and entered, carrying several folders.
“The share transfer contracts are ready.”
Demi stood up.
Half an hour later, when she emerged from the conference room, the previously resentful directors looked much more pleased, even showing hints of joy.
They’d thought Demi was going to throw them in jail, but not only had she not pursued the matter, she’d bought their shares at above market value.
When news of the day’s activities reached Roderick’s ears, he was tending to plants with Carol.
“My daughter knows when to push and when to pull back. She picks up what needs picking up and lets go of what needs letting go.”
Roderick said with satisfaction. In his excitement, he accidentally snipped off a flower bloom instead of the leaf he’d meant to trim.
“Roderick!”
Seeing the flower she’d worked so hard to cultivate destroyed by her careless husband, Carol immediately shooed him away in exasperation.
“Stay away from my flowers from now on!”
“Hey, I didn’t do it on purpose…”
Around 2 or 3 p.m., Lewis knocked on the door.
“Ms. Snow, the person who had an appointment with Mr. Snow is here. Should I…”
Demi was at a critical point in proving herself and establishing her position. She immediately said, “I’ll go.”
Lewis replied, “Okay. They’re waiting in the conference room.”
