Demi had just come back from a meeting, and she stepped out of the elevator. She felt someone behind
her.
She turned and saw the cleaning lady from the compan
The woman flinched when Demi looked at her. She hurried to greet her. Demi gave her a small nod in
return
The woman watched Demi walk off and her eyes stayed on Demi’s shoes.
She thought the floor looked clean and dry. She thought there was no water that could make Demi slip.
Demi wore Bat shoes today. She thought her feet would not hurt, and her chance of falling would be low.
The woman muttered in her head as she grabbed the floor machine. She cleaned the hallway outside Demi’s office again.
She wiped the floors many times. The company paid her two salaries for this. The extra pay was twice her normal check.
An employee walked out of the break room with a cup of coffee.
The cleaning lady pushed her cart and followed him.
Inside the office. Demi flipped through the files in her hands. Her stomach growled, so she grabbed a snack and ate beside her work.
But then something felt off.
Demi looked around the office with doubt. She set the blueberries from her cupcake aside and felt a presence near her.
She whispered, “That feels odd.
“Maybe the pregnancy is making me too jumpy,”
She was alone in the office. She could not explain the strange stare she felt. She shook her head with a small
smile.
She filled her stomach and reached for her work again then her phone’s screen lit. Phoebe sent her a video call
Seeing her best friend’s name, Demi suddenly realized had been days since they last talked. She answered right away.
Phoebe appeared on the screen in a stylish city look. She gave a playful smile.
She said, “So what is the great CEO doing today?”
Demi said, “Just buried in nonsense.”
Her friend laughed at her tone. Demi felt her stress drop a little.

She asked. How’s life? Did the venue work out?”
The camera showed chaos behind Phoebe. The remodel was still going on. Demi could not make anything
CRIL
Phoebe said, ‘I signed the contract. The crew is rushing the remodel.” She shifted the camera so Demi could see the exhibet space.
Once the remodel finished, she would start building the show
They talked about their work for a while. Then they talked about their personal lives.
Demi spoke with doubt in her voice at the end. She said “Maybe I am just worn out, but I keep feeling like someone is watching me.”
The feeling had been strong. Demi even wondered if she was slipping into paranoia.
Snow Group was huge. She had no idea who would watch her here.
Phoebe laughed when she heard that. She said. “Demi, that is just your nerves playing with you.”
She added, “Do you want me to take you out to shop or get a spa day?”
Demi said. “Skip the shopping.” She thought of how Neon followed her everywhere these days. She thought of how he even brought a kid along.
She was pregnant now. She couldn’t use the spa products with chemicals.
She said. “Let’s get dinner tonight. I will book a table and text you.”
Phoebe said. “That works.”
Phoebe stayed busy too. The exhibit show meant everything for her career. She even watched the remodel herself, and Demi handled the exhibit pieces. But this was Phoebe’s chance to build her own name.
They set the time. Demi hung up. She dove back into the thick pile of folders on her desk.
A moment later. Demi turned her head on instinct. She saw only a security camera in the corner.
She stared at it for a few seconds. She told herself it had to be the pregnancy hormones.
Somewhere else, Nevin watched the screen. He saw Demi turn toward the camera. She looked like she could see him right through it.
