Chapter 92 Rhea’s Call

Finished

Last night, Nevin had been on his way to grab some pie for Demi when Orion’s name lit up his phone. He didn’t pick up. If he did, Orion would’ve probably begged to come along. Nevin wasn’t in the mood to deal with that.

When it had just been him following Demi around, she hadn’t seemed this cold.

But ever since he brought Orion into the mix, she’d shut down even more.

Was she sick of both of them?

He remembered one of the women at work saying pregnant women were extra sensitive and emotional. That stuck with him.

He declined the call without thinking. When he turned his head, Demi was already looking at him.

He froze. She must’ve heard Rhea’s voice on the other end.

He opened his mouth to explain, but Demi turned away Her expression didn’t even shift.

No jealousy. No snide remarks. Nothing.

It was strange. He used to get irritated when she snapped or got moody. But now that she didn’t react at all, something felt off.

Demi lifted her spoon and took a sip of the soup.

The broth had simmered for hours, packed with the flavor of beef bones and thick cuts of short rib. The taste was deep and comforting. She took another bite of the crust.

But then, just like that, she set her fork down. Maybe she was full. Maybe it just didn’t taste the same

anymore.

“Demi, about me and Rhea…”

He didn’t want to go down that road again. He was tired of explaining whatever mess that was.

Still, with Demi carrying their child, he had to tread carefully.

She didn’t say a word. She wiped her mouth, stood up, grabbed her phone, and walked away.

The door slammed behind her.

Nevin stood there, unmoving. After a moment, he rubbed the side of his head and followed her out.

Bilingual Immersion School.

“Bye, Rhea.”

Orion waved and headed toward the main doors. Rhea stayed behind, smiling like the picture of grace and warmth.

She caught a glimpse of a few parents whispering by the gate.

“Orion’s mom hasn’t been around in a while. Did they actually get divorced? I heard his dad’s some CEO…”

“CEO of the Blackwell Group. That family runs half the city.”

“So this is the new one? Maybe we should say hi. She’s gotta have some serious pull.”

“Honestly, Orion seems to like her a lot…”

All of them were dressed in high-end clothes and clearly weren’t struggling.

Rhea straightened her shoulders. Her eyes glinted with quiet pride. She raised a hand and waved sweetly. “Orion, I’ll come pick you up later today, okay?”

He turned when he heard her, but he didn’t quite catch the words.

She used the moment to snap a photo of him.

Once he disappeared inside the building, she got into her car.

Then she opened Instagram and posted a story that only Demi could see.

“Our little Orion’s growing up. Even if Daddy doesn’t come home, we’ll be just fine. He said it himself—I’m right here, so we’re not scared of the dark anymore.”
