Carol’s voice was soft and worried. “Demi, you’ve been on your feet all day. Your back must be killing you.” She glanced at her grandson’s sulking face, then gently tugged Demi down beside her.
Orion’s eyes lit up. He darted behind Demi and started working her back with his fists. His little hands landed with just enough pressure to avoid scolding.
Demi pressed her lips together. She caught her mother’s warning look and said nothing.
“Mom, does that feel good?
“Right here? Still sore?”
He kept asking as he massaged her. Demi didn’t even blink. Her voice stayed flat. “Yeah.”
No one had a clue what she was really thinking.
Orion never acted this sweet toward her. Since the day he was born, all he did was take. And she gave him everything without complaint. That wasn’t the problem
What cut deep was being betrayed. Like her love had been nothing more than his right.
Carol stayed nearby for a while, smiling gently. Then she stepped out of the room to give them space.
“Orion.”
“Yeah? I’m right here, Mom.”
“Stop showing up like this.”
He froze for a second. Then he mumbled, “I just wanted to see Grandma and Grandpa.”
Demi turned her head. His hands hovered in the air. Her voice came out cold. “That’s a lame excuse.”
He dropped his gaze. “I’m still a kid. Of course it’s lame
Demi stared at him. He’d only been away a few days, and he’d already turned this bold?
“Don’t be mad, Mom. I really just like being around them. I wanna see them all the time.”
His voice was low. His eyes filled with tears, but he blinked fast to hold them in.
Demi didn’t say another word, but she didn’t block him from coming either.
She could see how much her dad and mom truly loved him.
What she didn’t see coming was the other shameless on showing up right after.
Nevin walked in with a gift box in hand, claiming he came to pick up Orion. But really, he was just here to score dinner.
“Dad!”
Orion spotted him right away. Nevin gave the boy a quick look, but his eyes locked on Demi.

“I heard you haven’t been eating fruit lately. I brought some dried fruit and jerky. Try it.”
Demi frowned. She nearly asked how he even knew that

Then it hit her. He was still the CEO. He had access to everything, even her grocery receipts. And honestly, her eating habits weren’t exactly private.
She didn’t waste time talking to either of them. She got up and walked upstairs. She might not be putting in late nights anymore, but there was still plenty she could get done on her laptop.
The second she was gone, Orion turned to Nevin and puffed up like a balloon.
“Dad, I gave Mom a back massage earlier.”
At least she still said a few words to him sometimes.
To Nevin? She acted like he was a ghost.
Nevin’s jaw ticked when he caught the smug tone in Orion’s voice.
The little brat was actually showing off.
Across town at the Blackwell Villa, Rhea stormed out again, hands empty, teeth clenched.
