Chapter 42
Chapter 42
Aaron’s car stopped at the Harvey mansion. Serena and her parents arrived right after. As the Harveys got out, Aaron’s voice was ice. “Go inside
Take that dress off.”
Serena froze in the passenger seat. “Aaron? She’s gone to the Elliotts. Why cling to her things?”
“Take it off,” he repeated, glaring. “Don’t ever say those things about her again. We know where those lies were born.”
Serena flinched. Her parents hurried over. Mrs. Harvey pulled Serena close. “Aaron! Serena did nothing wrong!”
“Louisa was raised outside,” Mr. Harvey dismissed. “Her character is lacking. Serena was raised with our values. She wouldn’t lie.”
Aaron looked at them, a cold realization dawning. They defended their adopted daughter while slandering their own flesh and blood.
“Louisa is your real daughter,” he said tightly. “Seek the truth before slandering her.”
Serena clutched his sleeve, voice quivering. “Aaron, I’m not lying-”
“Don’t touch me.” He shook her off. “I’ll find who’s behind this. Louisa is angry about the kidnapping, and she should be. I’ll make them pay.”
He got back in his car and sped away.
Back home, the silence felt empty. He called his assistant. “Find Louisa. No matter the cost. And order the largest pink diamond ring. Now.”
Restlessness drove him to a bar. Old friends found him, smirking.
“Cooke! Shouldn’t you be with Serena?”
“My wedding,” Aaron said coldly, “was to Louisa.”
One friend chuckled awkwardly. “We all thought you’d end up with Serena. It made sense. Louisa… she was always an outsider. Cold. And now she
runs off?”
“Serena’s warm. Always thinking of you…”
