It Doesn’t Matter Anymore novel Chapter 41

Chapter 41

Back in Chezino, Aaron, after rushing Serena to the hospital, tried to return for me. Serena clung to him, sobbing. “Mum and Dad have Louisal She’s safe at home! It’s bad luck to see the bride before the wedding! You’ll see her tomorrow.”

The lie soothed him. He’d make it up to me tomorrow.

The next day, “Wedding of the Century!” headlines screamed. Aaron stood at the altar, hopeful. When the veiled bride approached, he rushed forward, pulling her into an embrace. “Louisa, I missed you.”

She lifted her veil.

Aaron recoiled. “Serena? Where is Louisa?”

Serena clutched the wedding dress, tears spilling. “She’s gone, Aaron. Yesterday, she packed a bag and left. She said she was never coming back I wore this… to save face for our families.”

“Gone?” Aaron’s voice was dangerously quiet, then erupted. “Impossible! She wouldn’t!”

He shoved past her, fleeing the altar. He called. Again. And again. Straight to voicemail. He texted frantically.

Louisa, please. Where are you? Just talk to me.

I’ll get you a new dress. A hundred new ones,

Please. Just one word.

Silence. He called again. “The number you have dialed is no longer in service…

Serena and his parents found him outside, slumped against his car. “Aaron! How could you abandon me?” Serena cried.

He looked at her, irritation flashing. “That wedding was for me and Louisa. You never should have been there.”

Serena’s face hardened, then melted into wounded grace. “Aaron… the truth is, Louisa hasn’t loved you for a long time. There have been others. When the Elliott family made their offer, she took the billion and left. She chose them.”

“It’s true!” Mrs. Harvey cut in, bitter. “That shameless girl used you!”

Mr. Harvey placed a hand on Aaron’s shoulder. “Son, she’s not worth it. You have Serena.”
