Chapter 44
Chapter 44
My plane landed in Pibrowa at dusk. A black sedan waited. We drove to the Elliott estate.
I pushed open the heavy front door. Joshua Elliott sat in an armchair, a cigarette unlit in his fingers. His eyes were cold and sharp
“Miss Harvey,” he said calmly. “Shouldn’t you be at your wedding? And yet, here you are. You’ve heard the stories. And yet you came”
I steadied myself. “Mr. Elliott, I offer more than a name. As for stories, I find gossip poor substitute for truth. I suspect we both believe in settling
accounts.”
His eyebrow lifted. “Go on.”
I sat opposite him. “You’re competing for the Northern Project. With the Cooke-Harvey ‘alliance, your position is harder. But what if their
foundation is already cracked?”
He gestured for me to continue.
“I’ve severed their critical technology. I have the Harvey supply chain vulnerabilities. With this, you win the project by watching them crumble.”
“And your price?”
“The Harvey Group. When it falls, I take what’s mine.”
Joshua regarded me. Then a low, genuine laugh escaped him. “You are more interesting than the dossier suggested.”
He stood. “My assistant will handle the marriage particulars. However, understand this.” His expression turned serious. “I do not play games. This will not be a marriage of cold convenience and separate bedrooms.”
