It Doesn’t Matter Anymore novel Chapter 69

Chapter 69

Eight PM. The Howling Lodge was thick with smoke, dim light, and expensive booze.

I pushed the door open. Saw her first

Ada, tucked in a corner like a cat. A low cut silk top. She shifted, pushed her chest out, laughed at some rich Alpha beside her

Then she saw Joseph and me. A flash of hate in her eyes. Gone. Replaced with a sweet, empty smile.

“Hello, Luna!” she chirped. “I’m the Alpha’s new assistant. Here to help pour drinks!”

I gave a tiny nod. Said nothing.

For two hours, Joseph was perfect. Cut my steak. Blocked drinks for me. When someone said Ada should sing, he stared straight ahead ign her.

“Damn, Joseph, your self-control,” a friend laughed.

“With a Luna like that at home? Who’d look elsewhere?”

Joseph ate it up. Pulled me close. “Exactly. No one compares to Lois.”

Inside, I was choking. I made an excuse. Went to the bathroom.

Splashed water on my face. Stared at the fake smile in the mirror.

Walking back to the VIP room, my hand almost touched the knob. Laughter burst out. My hearing caught it all.

“Joseph, what’s with the Omega? Can’t ask with Luna here.”

“Yeah, she was eyeing you like a meal.”

Joseph’s laugh was low, drunk, ugly. “Just for fun. Free meat. You’d be stupid not to eat.”

“Not scared Luna finds out?”

“Her?” He sounded disgusted. “She’s clueless. A blockhead. Dead in bed. Boring. Nothing like Ada.”

Ada’s voice cut in, sweet. “Joseph, you’re bad! Acting all serious. I got jealous.”

“Be good. Come here. Let me kiss you. Holding back was killing me.”

Sounds of moving, moaning. Cheers and laughs from the others.

“Moon Goddess, Joseph! Right here?”

“Truth or Dare! Joseph! Which? The goddess at home or the wildcat in your arms?”

His voice was muffled, like his face was in her chest. “A goddess is for looking at. In bed… I want a slut.”

He took a deep breath, the scent of Ada’s cheap perfume and arousal clogging his throat. “Hers is just… dead air.”

Boom.

The laughter felt like slaps. Hard, one after the other. To them, I was a joke. A stupid, decorative joke.

I let go of the doorknob. Didn’t burst in. Didn’t shift. I turned and walked to the balcony.
