It Doesn’t Matter Anymore novel Chapter 83

Chapter 83

Lucas let out a derisive chuckle, gave a curt response, and walked toward the door

Tall with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, he moved with a certain graceful power

Liora stood frozen,

Her eyes locked on his retreating figure, but her thoughts wandered to a more distant memory, the slim, upright silhouette of the young man she

once knew

Her heart, which had been numb until now, suddenly flared with a sharp pain.

“Liora.”

Lucas paused at the door, turning his head back.

“I’m no longer under Old Mr. Shannon control, so you won’t get a second chance. You’re the one who wanted the divorce. If you regret it later, don’t

go after Jennie. She’s already been hurt enough because of you.”

Liora had loved him so fiercely, how could Lucas not have felt it? In her life, barren of anything but dance, he was the only one who mattered

So Lucas was certain that Liora’s actions now had nothing to do with her feelings but rather the provocation caused by Jennie’s appearance.

Once she calmed down, he was sure she’d regret her decision.

There was no turning back now, and when that time came, he knew she wouldn’t be able to crwal back to him.

But Liora had always been kind and polite to everyone…except Jennie.

Lucas hadn’t been able to protect Jennie in the past, letting her suffer through the years.

Therefore, no matter what Liora did from here on, he wouldn’t let Jennie be hurt by him any longer.

“Mr. Chandler, trust me, you should be warning her,” Liora signed calmly, her beautiful eyes clouded with a thin mist, but her eyes soft and gentle.

“Tell her not to come near me.”

If she did…

Jennie would only end up worse off.

Liora had never been one to drag things on unnecessarily.

When she wanted Lucas, not even the king could have stopped her.

Now that she didn’t want him anymore, she couldn’t be bothered to shed a single tear for him.

After Lucas left, she went about tidying up the mess he’d left in the dressing room, picking up her torn ballet skirt carefully.

It had been her favorite one.

And now, it was ruined at Lucas’s hands.

The dress had been expensive, a prize from an international ballet competition she’d won, designed by a top-tier fashion designer.

Chapter 83

To repair it would cost a small fortune

That cost would be added to the divorce agreement

He’d have to pay

Just as she finished cleaning, Zoe’s voice came from outside the door, inviting her to a farewell party since today was her last day

As they spoke, Liora’s phone suddently rang.

She was surprised-few people had her number, and those who did knew she couldn’t speak and wouldn’t call her

“Sunrise Senior Living? It’s in the next city over. Why would a retirement home be calling this late…” Zoe’s confusion matched her own

Liora picked up the phone.

“Is this Liora? This is the hospice department at Sunrise Senior Living. We have a patient here named Olivia Cain. Her condition is deteriorating its only a matter of days now. She’s been asking to see you. If you can, please come quickly.”

The words felt like a thunderclap in her ears.

From David H. Koch Theater to Sunrise Senior Living, it would take three hours to drive.

By the time Liora arrived, it was already past 1 AM.

“We knew you were coming. She’s been waiting,” the nurse who’d called her led Liora to the hospital room.

The door opened, and Liora gazed at the frail figure lying in the bed.

Olivia, the former headmistress of Crystalshore Orphanage, the one who had raised Liora and helped her become a ballet dancer… the woman she had always considered a mother.

Three years ago, old Mr. Hughes had found Liora when she was living on her own.

At the time, Liora had refused to return to the Hughes family.

Coincidentally, Crystalshore had gained popularity after a travel blogger posted about its beautiful scenery, attracting real estate developers.

The island was about to be sold, and then Olivia was diagnosed with stomach cancer.

She needed money to save the island, and Liora needed money to save Olivia, so they made a deal with her grandfather.

Soon after, Olivia said she had contacted a hospital abroad for treatment and was going overseas for her care.

The two kept in touch.

Olivia told Liora that the treatment was going well and that she had even met the love of her life in Europe and planned to settle there for a peaceful life.

Liora didn’t suspect a thing. After all, Olivia’s cancer had been diagnosed early, and the chance of recovery was high.

Plus, Liora sincerely hoped that Olivia’s remaining years would be filled with happiness.

Olivia deserved to be free from the burdens of life, not bound by anything or anyone.

It wasn’t until Liora decided to marry Lucas that Olivia returned suddenly. After a heated argument, Olivia severed all contact with Liora.

Over the years Liora had tried asking around but no one knew her whereabouts

On the way here, the nurse had sent Libra Olivia’s medical records

During their argument. Olivia hadn’t received proper treatment, and the cancer had spread

To thes Libra? A voice both familiar and strange, called out

Liora choked back a sob and quickly walked to the bed

Olivia’s face broke into a gentle smile

“You’ve grown up, and you’re even more beautiful than before.”
