Chapter 235
Stella sat up in bed, fully awake now. “Who did you say was at the police station?”
Evan Wright?
For a moment, she thought she must have heard wrong.
This was Harbor City. Evan was the last person who should have ended up in a place like that.
And even if he had, why would anyone need her to bail him out?
“Mr. Evan Wright,” the caller repeated.
At that, Stella knew for sure.
It really was Evan.
Well, that was unexpected.
A man like Evan had ruled Harbor City for so long, he practically acted like he owned it.
“What did he do?” she asked.
“Assault.”
Stella froze.
Assault?
Wait. Who did he hit?
A faint sense of dread rose in her chest, but she kept her voice even. “Why are you calling me?”
“For bail. We need a family member to come post it.”
Stella: “”
Family member?
What kind of family was she in his world?
Dora and the rest had never treated her like part of the Wright family.
And now that they needed family, they were calling her?
She answered with three crisp words.
“I don’t have money.”
Then she hung up.
୮
The idea that she would drag herself out in the middle of the night to bail Evan out was absurd.
After a moment, she thought of something and called Jack, Felix’s assistant.
He answered quickly. “Miss Rowan.”

“Where’s Felix?”
“At the station. He just get out.”
Stella’s expression changed. “Evan hit him?”
The second she heard Felix was there too, the suspicion she’d had a moment earlier was confirmed.
Evan really had lost his mind.
He was like a rabid dog now, lashing out at whoever he could.
Jack didn’t answer.
Instead, Felix’s voice came over the line. “Evan got hurt too. Whether you come bail him out is up to you.”
The words ‘got hurt too’ told her enough.
This hadn’t been one-sided.
They had fought each other.
“I’m sorry,” Stella said quietly.
Even if it had been mutual, Evan was the one who went looking for him.
Wasn’t he supposed to be at the hospital because of Summer and the baby?
And instead he had gone after Felix too?
He really had endless energy.
Felix gave a soft laugh. “That’s his temper. You know that better than anyone.”
Stella fell silent.
Hearing Felix say that made something ache in her chest.
He was right.
After years of marriage, she knew exactly what kind of person Evan was.
When he was angry, he dragged everyone into it.
In private.
In business.
Everywhere.
“No matter what, I’m still sorry,” she said.
“If you really are sorry, you can make it up to me.”
That word made her pause.
Make it up to him?

“What kind of compensation do you want?”
Felix’s voice stayed warns “I haven’t decided yet. I’ll tell you when I do.”
For a moment, something strange moved through her chest.
Her thoughts tangled, and she didn’t know how to respond.
Felix didn’t press.
He said a few more simple words, then hung up.
The second that call ended, Dora called.
“You should go bail him out.”
Her voice sounded tired, but it still carried the same old dissatisfaction and command.
Stella let out a mocking laugh. “Mrs. Wright, maybe I should remind you of something. If word gets out that Evan spent the night at a police station, Wright Group’s stock price might take a hit.”
Dora’s breathing went heavy.
Stella went on, cool and sharp, “You must still be half asleep if you think you can call me and order me
around.”
