Love Me Back (Amelia and Daniel) novel Chapter 404

Violet blurted out, “Are you insane? Do you have any idea who he is?”

Amelia gave Samuel the same incredulous look—was he out of his mind? Did he even know who Daniel was? The golden boy, heir to generations of Campbell prestige and power, a man who’d never bow his head to anyone. There was no way Daniel would kneel.

Sure enough, on the screen, Daniel fixed Samuel with a cold, venomous stare. “Did prison scramble your brains? Samuel, if you were dead, I might consider paying my respects at your funeral—and that’s a big ‘might.’”

Samuel crossed his arms, looking like he had all the time in the world to toy with Daniel. “So you’re not going to kneel? Well, it’s a long night—don’t blame me if I have to lay a hand on your women.”

Daniel’s jaw clenched, muscles flexing along his cheek.

Seeing Daniel uncomfortable was pure satisfaction for Samuel. Finally, after years of living under Daniel’s thumb, the tables had turned—tonight, he got to treat Daniel like a dog.

“These two—” Samuel traced his finger across the screen, first Amelia, then Violet. “One’s the woman you idolize, the other’s your wife. Both the loves of your life are right here in my hands. One kneel from you, and they both walk away unharmed. Not a bad deal, is it?”

Daniel didn’t move.

“Not even for the women you love?” Samuel sneered, turning to Amelia. “See? Your life isn’t even worth as much as it would cost Mr. Campbell to bend his knee.”

He fanned the flames on Violet’s side too. “And you—seriously, you think he cares about you? You’re not even worth a flick of his finger.”

Violet bit her lip, her face pale. She desperately wanted to prove her worth in Daniel’s eyes, but the thought of making him suffer this humiliation was unbearable.

“You’re going too far!” she shouted.

Samuel’s grin was all malice. “Too far? Darling, this is just the beginning.”

He turned back to Daniel, his patience wearing thin. “I’ll count to three. If you’re still standing, I start with your women.”

“Three.”

“Knew it—men always fall for a pretty face. So, Daniel, who was it for? The woman you worship, or the wife you’re divorcing?”

Daniel’s mouth was set in a hard line as he rose to his feet. The dust stains on the knees of his suit pants were stark against the dark fabric—a mark of humiliation, the first crack in Mr. Campbell’s pride.

He said nothing, face carved from stone. Samuel didn’t mind; he kicked his feet up, relishing every second. “I’ve dreamed of this day every night in prison. Sweetheart—” He reached out, brushing his hand along Amelia’s pale cheek. “See? Didn’t I promise you the show would be worth it?”

With a sudden crash, Daniel kicked over a chair. His eyes on the camera were wild, bloodshot, murderous.

Samuel, feeling invincible, only laughed. “Jealous, are we? Just one touch and you’re ready to kill? Please, Daniel. You didn’t care three years ago when you chose between your wife and someone else—don’t try to play the devoted husband now.”

Daniel still said nothing, but he never took his eyes off the hand Samuel had laid on Amelia.

Even Samuel, for all his bravado, felt the chill of that stare and snapped, “What are you looking at? Did I say something wrong? Hypocrites like you make me sick—always wanting both sides. Well, not this time. I’ll make damn sure you lose everything.”
