Sunlight slanted through the window, casting pale golden patterns across the floor. The tears on Violet’s cheeks were already half-dried when Daniel finally spoke. “Leave Greenfield. Go abroad. I’ll handle everything.”
So it wasn’t enough for her to leave Greenfield—he wanted her out of the country altogether.
Violet’s heart felt as though it had been pierced by a thousand needles at once. She couldn’t let a trace of anger or resentment show on her face; her tears could only be those of heartbreak.
But it didn’t matter. As long as she could take Amelia down with one blow, what did a little humiliation matter?
…
Lately, Amelia had been sleeping soundly and waking early. Each morning, the very first thing she did was pick up a pen and cross off the previous day on her small calendar—a ritual, as if striking out the gray shadow of the past. Once Ruby’s surgery was over, their days would shine bright and new.
After washing up, she went to Ruby’s room and bent over to kiss Bunny on the cheek. Sensing her mother’s lips, Bunny opened her sleepy eyes wide and wrapped her arms around Amelia, returning the kiss.
“Good morning, Mommy!”
Amelia’s heart melted. She hugged Bunny close and planted a few more kisses. “Time to get up, sweetheart.”
Once Ruby had finished washing her face, she darted into Amelia’s room, grabbed the little calendar from the nightstand, and started counting. “One, two, three…”
“Mommy, there are only seven days left until my operation!”
Amelia had marked the surgery date with a bright circle. Both mother and daughter had been waiting for this day for what felt like forever.
Taking a pen, Amelia drew a pair of tiny wings on the surgery date. “After that day, Ruby, you’ll be my little angel with wings—you’ll be able to go anywhere you want. But first, little angel, let’s have some breakfast and get you strong for the big day.”
“Okay!” Ruby’s eyes sparkled with excitement. She devoured two sausage rolls, an egg, and a glass of milk, fueled by the thought that her surgery was finally near.
Amelia kissed her on the cheek. “Mommy’s off to work now.”

Twenty minutes later, she was knocking on the office door.
Lennon opened it, gestured for her to sit, and turned to pour some water.

Lennon sat down, meeting her clear, hopeful eyes. For a moment, he couldn’t find the words.
Seeing his expression, Amelia’s heart began to sink. “Is something wrong with Ruby’s labs? Is she not cleared for surgery?”
“It’s not Ruby.” Lennon let out a heavy sigh. He couldn’t avoid it any longer.
“The donor has changed their mind. They’re backing out.”

I hope this couple gets back together and he is the donor for his daughter. Thank you for the new chapters....
How come in every novel I read on here the women don’t tell the men they are the father of their child? I find this ridiculous....
