Amelia froze for a moment.
As the elevator doors began to close, Daniel stuck out his arm to stop them. “Not coming in? Planning to wander the streets all night?”
She dragged her suitcase inside and shot him a look. “When did you book the room?”
Daniel had that smug, king-of-the-world look, glancing at her out of the corner of his eye. “You think I’m as scatterbrained as you?”
Annoyed, Amelia dropped her suitcase and tried to pull Ruby away from Daniel’s side, but Ruby clung to his arm like she was glued there.
“Ruby isn’t a turnip, you know. Stop trying to yank her off,” Daniel said, brushing Amelia’s hand aside. As soon as the elevator doors opened, he strode out without so much as a backward glance.
As long as he had Bunny with him, did he really need to worry about Amelia not following?
Sure enough, Amelia followed them to the room, demanding, “Did you have something to do with this? How is every room booked up on a weekday?”
“You think my money falls from the sky?”
Daniel wandered around the suite with Ruby in his arms. The family room was huge—plenty of space for a kid to run around. The beds were impressive, too: a fun, bug-shaped bunk bed with a slide, and a massive king-sized bed.
He sat on the bed and bounced a little. Nice and springy—perfect for sharing with Amelia.
Amelia marched over, arms crossed. “I’m not saying I don’t trust you, but you’re pretty suspicious.”
Daniel let out a short laugh. “You think I threw money at every room in this place just to spend one night with you?”
“...”
“You’re really overthinking this, Chief Amelia.”
She choked on her retort.
Daniel got up and took Ruby out to the balcony to show her the view. Ruby tugged at his sleeve. “No wonder you don’t have a wife.”

The room was peaceful. Amelia lay down beside Ruby and dozed off with her.

Daniel was working quietly, typing so gently the keys were barely audible, probably trying not to wake them.
“Enjoying the show?”
His sudden voice startled her. She slipped out of bed and padded over, keeping her voice low. “You’re still here? Are you actually planning to spend the night?”
Daniel snapped his laptop shut and set it aside, pretending not to have heard her. “Sorry, what was that?”

Suddenly, Daniel reached out, and in the darkness, his hand found her wrist with uncanny precision, pulling her forward. Amelia, caught off guard, stumbled right into his arms.

I hope this couple gets back together and he is the donor for his daughter. Thank you for the new chapters....
How come in every novel I read on here the women don’t tell the men they are the father of their child? I find this ridiculous....
