Baldwin's confidence landed him a kick from Martha. "You were the best of a sorry lot!"

"Well, that still made me the best option." Baldwin began pacifying Martha once more.

Martha was about to retort when she realized that she'd deviated off course. "I'm talking to you about Lisa! Why are you changing the topic?"

"Well, I just don't understand what you mean when you say that she's seeing someone unacceptable! Do you know something? Or did she tell you something? Besides, she's all grown up now. Don't worry unnecessarily. We're long past the days when parents would decide on who their children marry!"

Baldwin had quite a liberal mindset.

Martha fell silent for a while before she said, "Logan is my brother. I care for him like I would my son."

Baldwin shook his head, not understanding how the conversation went from Lisa to Logan. "Maybe I should accompany you to the doctor's to get checked tomorrow."

That got him another kick from Martha. "Why do I need to go get checked? I'm perfectly fine! What I'm saying is, would you be alright if Lisa dated Logan?"

That caught Baldwin completely off guard. He lifted his hand and checked the temperature on her forehead. "Are you out of your mind? What nonsense is that?"

Martha stared at him for a few long seconds before switching off the lights and lying down on the bed.

After a long moment of silence, Baldwin said in the dark, "It wouldn't be too bad if they ended up together. After all, we basically watched Logan grow up."

Then, the room fell silent.

Lisa didn't contact Logan after she got out of the house. She wanted to just show up at his place to surprise him.

When she got there, she saw that the light in his room was still on. Lisa felt a part of her heart lighting up at the sight of that.

Keying in the passcode, she made her way in. The living room was dimly lit.
