Lisa took a deep breath. As expected, Martha wouldn't approve, but she kept probing. "Why is it okay for others but not for me?"

Martha let out a cold laugh. "You're looking for a boyfriend, but you're considering someone old enough to be your father. As for those younger ones, they're still kids—what are you trying to do, get yourself in trouble? And those uncles, do you want to embarrass your father and me to the point that we'd rather die?"

Lisa felt deflated. If she had gotten together with Logan, they would have been so furious that it would have given them a heart attack.

"Lisa, have you done something that goes against moral principles?" Martha asked, her tone sharp with suspicion.

Lisa denied it vehemently. "Of course not! What could I possibly do? You tell me."

Martha wasn't convinced. "Really? Then why did you ask me those questions?"

She quickly tried to cover up. "We just happened to chat about that topic. You're overthinking things. I'm not talking to you about this anymore—every conversation ends in a fight."

She hung up the phone and let out a helpless sigh.

"Lisa, it's time to let go of this obsession," she muttered to herself.

There was a knock on the bedroom door. Xander's voice came through. "Hey, girlfriend, I made some late-night snacks. Want to try some?"

Lisa declined. "No, thanks."

Being alone with a man, it was better to keep some distance.

"Gnocchi in wine sauce, it's really delicious." He sure knew how to tempt her.

Lisa had been on edge all day and hadn't eaten much. She hadn't felt hungry, but his words sparked her appetite.

Lisa froze, her mind blank. She wanted to slap herself for testing the waters with Martha earlier.

Now it felt like she had accidentally confessed everything.

"Mom, no! Don't make wild guesses. He's my uncle. How could I do something so immoral?" She tried to deny it again.

"I don't believe you. Come home right now, and I'll call Logan to come over too." Martha acted like she was ready to catch them red-handed.

Lisa was kicking herself for her blunder. As she was scratching her head, she noticed Xander was looking at her. Suddenly, she had an idea. "Mom, I swear, I'm telling the truth! I have a boyfriend now. If you don't believe me, I can let him talk to you."

She handed the phone to Xander, who took it and blurted, "Mrs. Carline, it's Xander Roulder speaking."
