Love's Redemption (Chris and Maddie) novel Chapter 961

After my check-up, Brandon returned, and I immediately gave him a once-over to make sure he wasn't hurt again. Fortunately, I didn't see any new injuries, and I felt a sense of relief. "What did you find out?"

"He confessed that he was broke and wanted to steal some money," he replied.

"That's too simple, isn't it?" Lisa said, sounding skeptical.

I shared her doubts and I knew he wasn't entirely convinced either. I looked at him and asked, "You don't believe that, do you?"

"That guy does have a history of robbery and theft," he explained, taking the examination form from Lisa. "I let him go but had someone follow him discreetly. We'll continue our investigation by looking into the people he associates with."

Lisa continued to explain, "It's normal for pregnant women to feel this way. You can help by giving her more massages and foot soaks. She should avoid standing for long periods."

After the check-up, we planned to meet again at the tea house later that evening. I then left with Brandon.

When we returned to the estate, I heard Tiffany's voice as soon as I walked in. "Madeline's back!"

"Tiffany!" I was delighted to see her.

Sally approached me, eyeing my protruding belly. "I heard you went for a prenatal check-up. Everything okay?"

"Yes, nothing to worry about," I replied, holding Tiffany's hand. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming over?"

"Tiffany was throwing a tantrum today and refused to go to preschool. I figured I'd bring her here since we have nothing else to do. She's always talking about you. I think she loves you more than she loves me!"

"Really?" I stroked Tiffany's face. "I've missed you too."

"She even wants me to give her a brother or sister." Sally smiled helplessly. "Who am I supposed to have a baby with?"

I playfully replied, "Why can't you have one with anyone?"

She glanced at Brandon. "Would anyone do?"

Brandon, noticing our conversation was heading in an awkward direction, spoke up. "I'll go get you all something to drink."

I said it in jest, but right after I spoke, my usually quiet belly actually moved.

"Oh! She responded! It really is a girl!" I exclaimed, surprised and delighted.

Brandon walked over with a tray of freshly squeezed juice. He handed me a glass first. "What made you so happy?"

"Our baby's a girl! I just asked her, and she kicked me back." I looked at him, beaming with pride.

"Really?" He placed the tray down and his hand lingered gently on my belly. "Baby, move again so I can feel it too."

The baby obliged, kicking his hand a couple of times. He was thrilled, bending down to give my belly a gentle kiss. "Such a darling."

As I looked at him, a smile still on my face, I caught Sally's gaze. Her expression was a bit frozen.

After Brandon finished fussing over me and the baby, he continued his tasks. Sally said, "Madeline, your happiness is truly enviable."
