As night fell, Lisa drove through the city, its lights glowing over the hurried crowds.
At this moment, their rush wasn't about work, but about getting home to loved ones waiting for them.
Suddenly, she thought of the days she lived with Logan.
Every time she came home, he'd be there, either sitting on the couch reading the newspaper or watching TV. The whole house would be filled with the aroma of delicious food. Back then, it didn't feel particularly special. But now, it felt incredibly warm and comforting.
It was a shame that those days had only been temporary.
Maybe she had been yearning for a stable relationship—someone to share everyday meals with.
Someone who would wait for her with the lights on and dinner ready.
The more she thought about it, the more she didn't want to return to her cold, empty apartment. Now, that place felt like nothing more than a place to sleep. When she reached her building, seeing the dark windows, she didn't even want to get out of her car.
But where could she go?
Back to Nadine's place or back home?
She sat in the car, unsure of where to go.
"I heard it's going to snow! I'm so looking forward to it!"
"Yeah, and it's supposed to be heavy snow. I'll drive you to work tomorrow. I'm worried about you going by yourself."
"Okay! If it snows tomorrow, wake me up early so we can play in the snow." A happy young couple walked past, hand in hand. Their joy was so contagious that Lisa couldn't help but smile.
She tilted her head to gaze out the window at the night sky. Indeed, there were no stars. Perhaps it really would snow.
Although the wine was taking effect, Lisa was still sober. She waved her hand dismissively at him and continued to indulge in her own world.
"May I join you for a drink, then?" The man didn't seem to want to give up.
"No, you may not," Lisa replied bluntly, never one to beat around the bush when declining someone.
The man, having been rejected twice, didn't show any annoyance and still didn't give up. "Is there anything I can do for you?"
"Yes," Lisa said, pointing to the side. "Stay away from me."
The man's expression finally turned unpleasant after being rejected three times. The next second, he picked up the wine on the table and poured it on Lisa.
This sudden move caught Lisa off guard, but she wasn't one to be trifled with. She quickly lifted her hand, grabbed the man's collar, and yanked him down. As he fell, Lisa seized the wine bottle from his hand and smashed it on his head.
