Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 164

"How many days is a few?"

Hudson remained silent.

Arthur muttered from the sidelines, "Three days minimum. A week at most."

A week.

Nora's hands balled into fists.

"Isn't there any other way?"

Arthur shook his head. "Dr. Harrison said the medication only takes the edge off. He has to ride it out himself."

Hudson leaned back against the couch, his eyes closed. "Enough. Shut it."

Arthur instantly fell silent.

"Boss, the bathroom is ready."

A couple of maids stepped out from the hallway, keeping their heads respectfully bowed.

Hudson nodded and pushed himself to his feet. He shot Arthur a warning look. "Watch the door. Nobody comes in."

"...Yes, sir."

Realizing he was leaving, Nora desperately grabbed his hand.

Hudson reached out and gently ruffled her hair. "Relax. Go upstairs and get some sleep."

"But..."

He was already walking toward the bathroom.

Nora stood frozen, watching the door click shut behind him. A heavy, suffocating knot tightened in her chest.

"Arthur, he was perfectly fine when he first got here. What just happened?"

Arthur tightened his jaw, staying quiet.

Nora stepped into his space, glaring up at him. "Give it to me straight."

Arthur hesitated before answering. "He spent the entire afternoon at the boxing gym, then sat in an ice bath for hours. He actually had the flare-up under control, but then you called him back..."

Nora stopped breathing. It was because of her?

She only wanted to test him...

She had no idea this would happen.

"I understand. Thanks for telling me."
