Just then, her phone suddenly vibrated.
Nora felt like she had been saved by the bell. She quickly pulled away from his embrace, glancing at the caller ID before making a 'shush' gesture at Hudson. Taking a deep breath, she answered the call and pressed the phone to her ear.
"Hello, Mom."
"Nora, is it a good time to talk?"
Nora glanced at Hudson, who was leaning against the back of the sofa, watching her with a half-smile playing on his lips.
"Yeah, it's fine."
There was a moment of silence before Penelope Reed's voice dropped into a hushed tone. "Hudson isn't with you, is he?"
"...No."
Nora braced herself and lied, her ears burning even hotter.
Hudson's smirk widened. He stood up, ruffled her hair, and turned to walk toward the kitchen.
Nora let out a breath of relief, fanning her face, though the heat stubbornly remained.
"Nora, let me tell you something."
Penelope's voice came through the receiver, laced with gravity. "Someone just called me and spouted a bunch of ridiculous nonsense."
"What nonsense?"
"She said we were tricked by Hudson. She said the West End project was entirely orchestrated by him, that he's playing the hero after causing the crisis..."
Nora frowned. "Who was it? Why would someone spout such garbage?"
"I don't know, she didn't say her name."
Penelope paused for a moment. "I also think it's total garbage. The West End project was saved entirely thanks to Hudson. If it weren't for him, our family would never have survived."
"By the way, Nora..." she shifted the topic. "Can you get in touch with Mr. Silas Lancaster? He promised to introduce a project to your father, but we haven't been able to reach him all day. His phone won't connect."
