As the words faded, a heavy silence settled over the private booth.
Grant Hamilton had built Star Entertainment from the ground up. While it wasn't the biggest player in the industry, its extensive network and aggressive tactics had dominated the entertainment headlines for years.
In San Francisco, the entertainment business was a goldmine, but the waters were treacherous.
Grant's success wasn't just built on money.
The most crucial factor was...
This was purely his vanity project.
Even if the company were up for acquisition, Edmond Sterling wouldn't even be on the waiting list.
"Just him?" Grant scoffed, flicking the ash from his cigarette. "He doesn't have what it takes."
Sebastian Caldwell offered a faint smile. "He offered a hefty price. He might just get his hands on it."
Just then, Hudson Lancaster finally looked up.
The cigarette between his fingers was half-burnt, a long ash clinging precariously to the end.
"Star Entertainment?"
Grant turned to him with a teasing grin. "Yeah, what's up? I thought you never cared for this kind of business."
Hudson lowered his gaze and slowly crushed his cigarette into the ashtray.
His movements were casual, but the subtle shift in his demeanor instantly silenced the entire room.
"I'm suddenly a bit interested," Hudson murmured. He grabbed his car keys from the table and stood. "Transfer Star Entertainment to me."
"Huh?" Grant blinked, completely thrown off guard. "What do you mean, transfer it to you? Are you just going to rob me blind?"
"Rob you?" Hudson paused, glancing back over his shoulder with a faint smirk. "I'll write you a check."
"Wait, that's not—"
"I'm out," Hudson interrupted, walking toward the door without another glance.
Before Grant could even process the conversation, the heavy door slammed shut.
The remaining men in the booth exchanged bewildered looks.
Sebastian lowered his voice. "What is he planning?"
Grant stared at the closed door, a sudden chuckle escaping his lips. "Well... seems like we have a situation on our hands."
...
Once the door clicked shut, he pulled out his phone, his eyes darting to the screen out of pure habit.
No messages.
No missed calls.
Ever since Nora Reed blocked him, it was as if she had vanished from the face of the earth.
His expression darkened. He turned to his assistant. "Give me your phone."
The assistant flinched but quickly handed it over.
Edmond dialed the familiar number from memory.
It rang twice before being disconnected.
His jaw tightened. He dialed again.
"The number you have dialed is currently unavailable..."
Blocked again.
His knuckles turned white as he gripped the device. He tossed it onto the table with a sharp clatter, the sudden noise making his assistant jump.
