Hudson swallowed hard. "I wasn't stringing you along last time, either. I just wanted to surprise you..."
She let out a soft huff.
Hudson stared at the woman on the screen, feeling like he was losing his mind.
He was completely lovesick.
Never in his life had he been so desperate to see someone.
The yearning had been festering in his mind for days. It had taken root the moment he left San Francisco, growing into an all-consuming obsession.
"Darling, I miss you so much..."
Nora's cheeks burned.
"Alright, I need to get to sleep. I have an early start tomorrow..."
"You heartless little thing. Don't you miss me at all?" Hudson chuckled, though it strained with longing.
"I do..." Nora blurted out instinctively. Seeing the sudden spark in his gaze, she realized what she had confessed and quickly bit her lip.
"You miss me too, don't you?" Hudson's voice dropped to a gravelly, impossibly rough whisper.
Blushing deeply, she stayed quiet, her fingers unconsciously twisting the edge of her blanket.
The truth was, she missed him too.
She missed him so much her chest ached with it, a heavy, suffocating wave of longing wrapping around her heart until she could barely breathe.
She wondered if she had ever missed anyone this much in her entire twenty years of life.
It was a yearning that sank deep into her bones.
She wanted to hold his hand, to embrace him, to kiss him, to...
