Olive didn't hesitate for a fraction of a second. She slammed her foot on the gas, and the car shot forward like a bullet.
Edmond chased after them for several yards, screaming Nora's name.
But two legs could never outrun a sports car, and he was quickly left in the dust.
He hunched over, bracing his hands on his knees as he gasped for air. He stared at the intersection where her car had vanished, his chest heaving violently.
Hudson was an absolute bastard!
Edmond had been in San Francisco for nearly half a month, yet aside from that brief encounter at the airport, he hadn't managed to catch a single glimpse of Nora.
Today, he finally found out she was filming at the broadcast station and had waited outside since before dawn.
But Hudson's security detail made sure he didn't even get the chance to speak a single sentence to her!
Edmond stood up, wiping the sweat from his face. He stared down the empty street, a dark, churning wave of bitterness rising in his eyes.
He needed to tell Nora that he had thrown Juliette out and severed all ties with her.
From now on, he would never let anyone disrespect her again.
He wasn't asking for much.
He just begged Nora to give him one more chance to start over.
This time...
He would never let go of her hand.
...
The car screeched to a halt outside San Francisco Central Hospital.
When Nora sprinted inside, Arthur was already waiting by the entrance. He hurried over the moment he saw her.
"Mrs. Lancaster."
"Where is Hudson? How is he? Is it bad?" Nora's voice was painfully tight. Her eyes were rimmed with red, but she stubbornly fought back her tears.
She knew that in moments like this, falling apart was not an option.
Arthur stepped aside, guiding her down the corridor. "The Boss is fine. In a moment of panic, he accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake and crashed into a guardrail. It's nothing life-threatening."
Nora walked faster. "Where is he? I need to see him."
Arthur hurried to keep up. "Ma'am, the Boss hasn't woken up yet. The doctors said he needs absolute rest. No visitors are allowed right now."
