Hudson's expression stiffened for a microsecond before he casually pointed to the small bandage on his forehead. "Right here, honey. Didn't you see?"

After a long moment of brooding silence, she leaned closer, a deeply serious look on her face, and lowered her voice to a whisper. "Do you think... someone hired an assassin to take you out?"

Hudson burst out laughing and affectionately tapped her nose. "You watch too many movies. Real life isn't packed with hitmen hiding in the bushes."

Nora was about to argue, but Hudson was already tossing the blankets aside to get out of bed.

"What are you doing?" She panicked, grabbing his arm. "Did the doctor say you could leave? Get back in bed!"

"I know my own body perfectly well."

"Absolutely not. You stay exactly where you are. I'm going to ask the doctor."

She turned to march toward the door, but before she took two steps, a strong grip clamped around her wrist.

With a gentle tug, Hudson pulled her right back into his lap.

He wrapped his arms securely around her waist, a roguish smirk playing on his lips. "Do I look like a guy on his deathbed?"

As he spoke, he leaned in to capture her lips.

Nora frantically pushed against his chest, her face burning. "We're in a hospital!"
