A young woman was standing in the doorway. She was decked out in a limited-edition designer dress, teetering on stilettos, her makeup flawless.
Her chin was tilted up in a blatant display of arrogance, her eyes sweeping over them with unmasked superiority.
Serena Sinclair.
She was a senior manager at Star Entertainment, repping two of their hottest stars. Her background was nothing to scoff at either, as she was the heiress to the Sinclair family of San Francisco.
"Serena..." Chloe managed an awkward laugh.
Serena didn't even acknowledge her existence. Her eyes were locked onto Nora, a mocking smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
Her heels clicked sharply as she took her time strolling up to Nora's desk, looking her up and down.
"I'll give you a little piece of advice..." Serena leaned in, lowering her voice so only the two of them could hear. "Don't go thinking you're actually special. A guy like Leo Hamilton isn't someone you can control..."
With that, she straightened up and turned to leave.
Right before she reached the door, she paused and threw Nora one last look, her smile devoid of any warmth.
"Just wait. You'll crash and burn sooner or later."
Chloe's face was flushed with anger. "Who does she think she is?! She's just jealous you actually got Leo to listen to you! She volunteered to be his manager a while back, and he kicked her out after three days. She was completely humiliated in front of the whole company. Seeing you succeed on your first day is just pissing her off!"
Nora ignored the outburst. She sat down and opened Leo's file.
Chloe kept rambling. "Plus, everyone knows she's been secretly in love with Leo for years. She thought stepping in as his manager was her golden ticket to getting close to him, but he tore her to pieces. Her ego took a massive hit, so seeing you..."
"Chloe," Nora interrupted. "Has the date for the first 'The Next Icon' taping been set?"
Chloe blinked, quickly scrambling to check her phone. "Yes, yes, next Friday at eight PM, at the San Francisco Broadcasting studio."
"Got it." Nora jotted it down on her planner. "Did Leo pick his song yet?"
"Not yet..." Chloe scratched her head. "He said he wanted to pick it himself, but he still hasn't submitted anything. The music department is hounding us for it."
Nora frowned. "I'll go talk to him."
"No, no, no!" Chloe waved her hands frantically. "You just calmed him down, don't piss him off again! There's no rush, let him take his time..."
"There is no time to take." Nora stood up. "We film next Friday. The song has to be cleared, the band has to rehearse, and the stage needs to be designed. Every single department is waiting on him. We can't drag this out."
Seeing Nora get up, Chloe lunged forward and grabbed her arm. "Oh, wait, I almost forgot to tell you..."
