Finnian's trembling fingers hovered over the edge of the frame, afraid to touch it.
Just then, his eyes caught the tiny signature in the bottom left corner.
—Sienna Quigley.
So this was the painting...
He had intended to see it before but abandoned the idea because of her name...
He should have known then.
He could have found out so much sooner!
Seeing Finnian's bizarre reaction, Jude quickly walked over. When he read the title of the painting, he murmured in shock, "Reminiscence..."
Finnian snapped out of his daze, taking a deep breath before nodding. "Yes, the exact same name left at the pawnshop..."
He was now absolutely certain—Nora Reed was his sister, Evangeline!
Finnian spun around, staring intently at Archer. "Where is your Madam? Where is she?"
Startled, Archer took a step back. "She went to the research facility to bring lunch to the Boss. She... should still be there."
Without another word, Finnian stormed out. Jude hurried after him.
The two jumped into their car, the engine roaring as they sped out of Cloudwater Estate.
Just as their car merged onto the main road of Azure Bay, Olive's car sped past them in the opposite direction.
Nora leaned against her seat, looking at the latest message from Hudson.
[Arthur and I will head straight to the airport. Come meet us once you guys finish packing.]
She smiled, typed a quick "Got it," and put her phone away.
When Nora and Olive arrived at Cloudwater Estate, Archer was standing by the door.
"What are you standing there looking stupid for? Hurry up and pack! We're going to party in The Bahamas!" Olive grabbed Archer by the neck and dragged him inside.
Poor Archer, standing nearly six-foot-three, was hauled away in a headlock by the pint-sized Olive. His back felt like it was going to snap.
Finally breaking free from her clutches, Archer sported a messy head of hair and turned to Nora, who was watching the show with amusement. "Madam, Mr. Fairchild and Mr. Winslow were just here. They said it was urgent and needed to see the Boss... I told them you were at the research facility, and they left..."
Nora nodded. "They're probably looking for Hudson to discuss the microchip development... Well, that's not our concern. Hurry up and pack. Hudson and Arthur are already on their way to the airport..."
"On it!"
...
Meanwhile, Finnian and Jude had arrived at the Vanguard Research Facility.
"I'm sorry, but neither of you have visitor access. You cannot enter," the security guard stopped them.
Finnian frowned. Despite his anxiety, he knew Hudson was at a critical stage with the chip development, so strict security was expected.
The guards at Cloudwater Estate said both Hudson and Nora were here... Since they were busy now, he would wait until they weren't!
He had plenty of time!
Minutes ticked by.
After nearly half an hour of waiting, Jude's phone buzzed.
Glancing at the caller ID, he immediately answered.
"Hello, Professor..."
Before he could finish, Douglas interrupted him. "Jude, where are you? Get your ass to San Francisco right now!"
"That cunning bastard Hudson tricked me! He said he just needed me to keep an eye on the facility, making it sound like a breeze. But I've been here for an hour and haven't even had time to drink water! I only have time to call you because I ran to the bathroom! He's not asking me to watch a project; he's working me like a horse!"
Hearing him panting angrily, Jude couldn't help but chuckle. "Professor, I am in San Francisco."
"You are?" Douglas paused. "What are you doing in San Francisco?"
"I came with Finnian. We're at the Vanguard Research Facility gate right now."
"You came with Finnian? Why didn't you say so! I'll have them let you in!"
In less than five minutes, the heavy gates slowly opened. A technician in a lab coat hurried out, leading Finnian and Jude through the two High-Sensitivity Security Gates and deep into the main building.
