Hudson waved him off casually. "Forget it. Let's go."
By the time the group walked out of the hall, the night had grown deep.
Seeing them finally emerge, Grant patted his chest in sheer relief. He hurried over to Hudson, throwing up a thumbs-up. "You're a legend, Hudson. I was terrified. I really thought someone was going to die in there today..."
He sidled over to Hunter. "Hey, you doing alright?"
Hunter waved him off, then turned his attention back to Hudson. "Seriously, about today... thank you."
He knew perfectly well that given how explosive Alistair had been, if Hudson hadn't intervened when he did, the old man might have actually beaten him half to death...
"No need to thank me."
Hudson glanced at Hunter's face, knowing the toll Alistair's outburst had taken on him.
It wasn't just the physical pain.
The emotional damage was likely much worse.
"The old man just hasn't wrapped his head around it yet. Give him time, he'll come around..." Hudson offered gently, trying to ease the tension.
Hunter gave a hollow laugh, clearly unconvinced.
He had wanted to be the perfect grandson.
But he couldn't just magically change his orientation.
He wasn't going to pretend to be straight just to make the old man happy, nor was he going to trap some innocent woman into marrying him and having his kids.
That would be truly despicable.
He still felt Australia was a better fit for him.
At least there, he could breathe.
"Anyway, enough about that. I'm heading back to Australia tomorrow anyway..."
It was better to leave before he caused any more disgust.
Hudson didn't try to stop him. Instead, he smoothly pivoted the conversation. "Perfect timing. I'm heading to Australia in a few days. I'll meet up with you then..."
