By the time they returned to Cloudwater Estate, the night was well underway. Bane lay resting by the kennel doors. The massive hound pricked his ears at the sound of the approaching engine, recognized the familiar hum of the family car, and lazily rested his heavy head back on his paws.
Just behind him, The Puppies were sound asleep in a tangled pile of soft fur. Only the runt of the litter lay sprawled on its back, kicking its tiny stubby legs in the air before settling back into a deep slumber.
Nora headed straight for the master bedroom. After a hot shower, she collapsed onto the plush mattress, radiating an unbelievable amount of energy.
She had slept through the entire flight back and now, with bright, wide eyes, she showed zero intention of going to bed.
When Hudson stepped out of the bathroom, he found Nora sprawled on her stomach, kicking her slender legs in the air.
He sat on the edge of the bed and effortlessly pulled her into his arms. "Not tired yet?"
"Not at all."
Nora snuggled deeper into his embrace, finding the perfect spot against his chest. She tipped her head back, her eyes gleaming with absolute gossip. "Are Hunter and Vincent... you know, actually a couple?"
Hudson looked down at her, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "Those two? One is actually gay, and the other is just faking it. There's no way they're together."
Nora froze, blinking in sheer confusion. She pushed herself up against his chest, staring at him in disbelief. "Wait, Hunter isn't into men? How is he the fake one?"
"..."
Hudson tapped her forehead lightly with his knuckle. "I meant Vincent."
Nora rubbed her forehead, her mind blown. "He's not into men? With a face like that, he should be breaking hearts left and right, regardless of gender."
Hudson arched a brow. He reached out, gently gripping her chin to tilt her face up toward his. "Did he break yours?"
Nora paused, immediately realizing her husband was drowning in jealousy. A triumphant smile curled her lips as she reached up to cup his handsome face. "Of course not. My husband is the most gorgeous man alive. How could anyone possibly compare to you?"
Hudson's frown instantly smoothed out. He stroked her jawline with his thumb, his voice dropping into a dark, gravelly octave. "Open up, honey. Let me see if you're really that sweet."
Before she could even take a breath, his lips crashed down on hers.
