"He beat you here by half a day. He's waiting at the hotel."
Hudson nodded. He knew the Winslow family was bleeding money right now. Investing in Vanguard Microchips was an absolute bottomless pit, and without a massive influx of capital, their research was doomed to fail.
It was exactly why Elias Winslow had weaponized The Ivory Pill, using it as leverage to force Nora and Jude to fulfill their sham engagement just to activate the trust for The Aurora Gold Deposit.
"Oh, right..."
Hunter added, as if suddenly remembering a crucial detail. "Finnian Fairchild tagged along too."
Hudson arched an eyebrow. "What the hell is he doing here?"
Hunter shot him a teasing smirk. "What's with that look? Finnian is technically your brother-in-law. Even if you're not going to suck up to him, there's no need to look so disgusted."
Hudson's voice was frigid. "I'm not disgusted by him."
"Then who are you annoyed with?"
Hudson didn't bother answering.
In the entire Fairchild family, the list of people who could order Finnian around was virtually nonexistent.
The obvious culprit was his deadbeat father-in-law, Henry Fairchild. Henry had fled the country to hide from Grandpa Vaughn's wrath, and he had conveniently chosen Australia as his refuge.
Clearly, Henry had caught wind of the gold mine and sent Finnian to do his dirty work.
Seeing Hudson's dark expression, Hunter chuckled and changed the subject. "The hotel I booked is the closest one to the gold mine. Let's grab some food first, and once we're settled, I'll take you out to the site."
"Sounds good."
Two sleek, understated black SUVs were waiting for them. After a scenic hour-long drive through the winding Australian hills, they pulled up to a beautiful ivory-white building.
The hotel wasn't massive, but it was pristine, with neatly manicured rows of lavender lining the entrance, filling the air with a sweet, calming fragrance.
Hudson and Nora's room was on the third floor. Pushing open the windows revealed a breathtaking panoramic view of the rolling green landscape, instantly washing away the fatigue of the long flight.
