Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 798

Before the dust could even settle, another wave of men poured out from behind the ridge. This time, there were over twenty of them, armed with far deadlier tools.

Leading the pack was a lean, sharp-eyed man in a faded blue work jacket. He walked with aggressive purpose, but his steps faltered the moment his eyes landed on the multi-million-dollar SUVs parked near the ridge.

He quickly assessed the situation: his bald enforcer groaning in the dirt, the flawless takedown by the lone bodyguard, and the completely unbothered posture of Hudson's group. His aggressive demeanor instantly vanished, replaced by a stiff, calculated smile.

"Gentlemen," he began smoothly, his eyes locking onto Hudson, recognizing him as the alpha of the group. "It seems there's been a misunderstanding. You don't look like men looking for a cheap brawl."

Hudson ignored the flattery. He glanced casually toward the partially concealed mine shaft in the distance. "Are you running this operation?"

The man hesitated for a fraction of a second before nodding. "I am. I'm the site manager. The name's Leon Vance."

Hudson nodded slowly. "Perfect. Tell me, Leon, exactly when did you start digging on this land?"

Leon's smile tightened. "Why are you asking? Who exactly are you people?"

Hudson let out a low, chilling laugh. "This land belongs to us."

A flicker of panic crossed Leon's eyes, but he suppressed it instantly.

Hudson leaned back against the hood of the SUV. "I'll ask you again. When did you start digging?"

"We... we just started recently. We haven't begun full-scale extraction yet. We're just doing some preliminary site prep."

Hudson pulled a mint from his pocket, smoothly unwrapping it and popping it into his mouth. "Site prep? Because a fleet of dump trucks hauling out raw stone looks a hell of a lot like an active mining operation to me."
