Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 812

Mrs. Winslow glared at him in exasperation. "If you had brought home a wife years ago, would I be out here begging people to set you up on blind dates?"

Jude rubbed his temples, completely drained. "Mom, I'm not thinking about that right now..."

"Well, I am!" Mrs. Winslow snapped, cutting him off without hesitation. "Do you know how old you are? Look at your friends! Most of them already have kids running around, and you're still completely alone!"

Standing awkwardly between them, Nora felt a bit cornered but nodded politely. "Don't worry, Mrs. Winslow. I'll keep an eye out for him."

Mrs. Winslow patted her hand approvingly. "See? At least you understand."

Jude shook his head in absolute defeat, taking a deep breath to steady himself. "Alright, I'm going in to see Grandpa..."

"Let's all go together," Mr. Winslow suggested. "It's better than walking in and out and disturbing his rest."

"Alright."

The group quietly filed into the ICU.

Elias looked nothing like the sharp, imposing patriarch they had seen just weeks ago. He seemed to have aged a decade in a single day, his frail body hooked up to a web of tubes and beeping monitors.

Seeing Elias looking so pale and weak, Nora felt a sudden lump in her throat.

Elias weakly raised a hand as they approached. Jude immediately rushed forward, gently clasping his grandfather's thin, withered fingers. "Grandpa..."

"Why are you all back? Is everything at the gold mine settled?"

"Don't worry about the mine, we have people handling it," Jude assured him. His brow furrowed with concern. "What happened to you? Why the sudden heart attack?"

Elias waved his free hand dismissively. "Just an old problem acting up. The doctor said I'm stable, so stop worrying."

He shifted his gaze to Hudson and Nora, offering a weak, fond scolding. "Look at you kids, rushing all the way back here over nothing..."
