Truth be told, ever since Soren arrived, they had all been quietly placing bets on who was stronger—the new guy or Mr. Lancaster.
Today, they were finally going to find out!
Instantly, all eyes locked onto Soren.
Soren stood perfectly still, his lips pressed into a tight line.
As a Fairchild shadow, he had been drilled with one absolute rule since boot camp: his master's safety came above all else. Hurting his master was treason.
And the man standing in front of him was the Young Master—essentially a half-master.
He couldn't hurt him.
But that thought didn't even survive three seconds.
Hudson's first punch whistled past his ear with a brutal, cutting force that stung his skin.
Soren instantly dodged, narrowly escaping the blow, a cold sweat breaking out across his back.
He instantly got serious and threw a counter-punch.
Hudson stepped inside his guard, grabbed his wrist, and twisted it sharply. Soren spun his arm to break the hold, only to be forced backward by a devastating elbow strike.
He threw his knee up to block, clashing with Hudson's forearm. The impact sent a paralyzing shockwave down his entire leg.
The two traded rapid, bone-rattling blows in the center of the mat.
Having caught his breath, Arthur sat against the wall, eyes glued to the fight. Archer and Olive squatted next to him, energy bars hanging from their mouths, equally spellbound.
The longer they fought, the more stunned Soren became.
He had fought his way to the top of the Fairchild shadows. He had never lost to anyone his age, and he had even taken down his instructors.
But this man outclassed him in every metric—strength, speed, and reaction time. Every move Hudson made perfectly cut off his escape routes, dragging him entirely into his rhythm.
Soren's forehead was already bruising, and his lip was busted.
