**Chapter 298: The Sick Jerk**
**Deanna’s POV:**
I blinked in disbelief, my heart racing. “What on earth are you doing here? I clearly said I was staying home tonight!”
Luis offered a nonchalant “Mm,” as if my words were mere background noise.
He persisted, his tone casual yet insistent, “So, are you coming out or what?”
“No,” I replied firmly, though my mind was already racing with thoughts of Kathryn. She was definitely still awake, and I had no desire to engage in a conversation with her tonight, especially not when I was planning to sneak out and meet Luis.
She would think I was way too eager for him, and that was the last impression I wanted to leave.
Luis’s voice came through the phone, lazy yet tinged with something else. “I’m sick.”
My heart skipped a beat. “Sick? With what?” I shot upright, instantly alert.
Was it something serious again, like that last time when he had worried me sick?
“I don’t know. Fever?”
His voice carried a weakness, almost pitiful.
A fever?
I felt a wave of relief wash over me, but I couldn’t help but probe further. “How high is it?”
“It’s 102°F.”
His voice was rough, and hearing it made me want to scold him.
“You have a fever! Why on earth didn’t you go to the hospital? Why come to me? I’m not a doctor!”
Luis sounded like a child caught in a tantrum. “I don’t want to see a doctor. I just want to see you.”
Frustration bubbled within me.
Why did he have to act like such a big baby?!
Here he was, sick and still managing to mess around with my emotions!
I shook my head, trying to push aside my concern. He was an Alpha—strong, resilient. A little fever wasn’t going to be his downfall.
With a huff, I hung up, tossing the pregnancy handbook off my lap and onto the table, then shut my eyes, hoping for sleep to come.
But sleep eluded me, and my mind kept circling back to the image of Luis at D Hotel, looking so vulnerable.
Ugh, this was so infuriating!
I suddenly shot up from my bed, my anger bubbling over.
Jerk!
Moron!
I flung the covers aside, threw on a knit cardigan over my pajamas, and without even bothering with shoes, I rushed to the window.
Pulling back the curtain just enough to peek outside, I spotted a bright yellow Lamborghini parked boldly in front of the villa.
She reached out, attempting to gently push me back into my room.
Panic surged through me, and I quickly turned around.
“Mom, I—”
“What’s wrong?” she asked, her voice laced with concern.
I closed my eyes for a fleeting moment, gathering my thoughts before blurting out, “I’m going out for a bit. You should go to sleep. Don’t wait for me.”
Before she could respond, I slipped past her and hurried out the door.
**Kathryn’s POV:**
“Hey… What is going on with this girl?”
I walked over to the window, peering outside.
To my surprise, I saw Deanna rushing toward the Lamborghini parked at the gate.
When I finally caught sight of the man inside, I could only shake my head in disbelief.
Girls really can’t be held back once they grow up, can they?
All I could do was hope this Alpha was capable of keeping Deanna safe.
And I prayed that the old witch from the Mooncrown Pack wouldn’t dare bully my daughter.
