Chapter 379 Utterly Safe
Luis’s POV:
The moment I heard that voice, my heart went feral, hammering; my body started to shake beyond my control.
I hit the nurse call on the wall at once, then bent down, eyes locked deep on her, terrified this was a hallucination.
I ran a hand through her long hair and muttered “You’re awake.”
Deanna slowly opened her eyes; in those clear, dark pupils, I saw the wreck I was right now.
I knew I must look terrible–bruised shadows under my eyes, maybe worse.
But she wasn’t afraid.
She made a tiny sound. “I was … afraid … if I didn’t wake, you’d be mad at me.”
It felt like a red–hot brand shoved down my throat–pain and scorch all at once.
Angry?
How could I ever be angry at her? I want to tear out my heart if that’s T scare me like this again.

lashes trembled. A thousand words jammed in my chest, all collapsing into a single hoarse whisper. “Dummy.”
Soon enough, Erik came with the doctors.
He strode in and began running every instrument over her. I had to step back half a pace, but my gaze was nailed to her, not daring to move for even a blink.
Erik studied the readouts; the knot between his brows finally loosened.
“Vitals are back in range; her wolf spirit is slowly recharging,” he exhaled long. “She’s still very weak, but the worst has passed. I’ll give her a nutritional injection.”
He pulled the stethoscope from his ears, came to my side, and patted my shoulder. “She’s okay.”
I said nothing–didn’t even look his way.
My eyes traced her like a starving man hoards light: the faint rise and fall of her chest, the

Erik sighed and slipped out with the team, closing the door without a sound.
I moved back to the bed, sat, took her soft hand in mine again–like holding the rarest treasure on earth–and just watched her.
Deanna looked back at me gently.
We held each other’s gaze for a long time.
“I had a dream,” she said slowly, voice rough from the coma.
I murmured, “Mm. What did you dream?”
“That you scolded me.”
There was a little grievance in her tone, soft as down.
I lifted my hand, my fingertip skimming her pale cheek, then her brow, then her lips. “Then, when you’re well, hit me.”
Deanna shook her head lightly.
“Why not?”
Her lashes fluttered; her voice was soft. “I can’t bear to.”
My chest stabbed; a scalding tear fell without warning, tracking dow hard.

Deanna’s POV:
I felt a cool dampness at my neck. My nose stung from seeing the wet on his lashes.
The truth is, while I drifted, I didn’t just dream.
I seemed to hear Luis say he would follow me away.
I was terrified.
I wouldn’t allow him to leave with me, so I forced my eyes open with everything I had to tell him: I don’t allow it.
At last, I woke.
I reached up, brushed his strong brows; my fingertips traced his eyes. I bit my lip. “Sorry….I
