Violet instantly felt a chill gaze coil around her, tightening her neck.

Erik hurried a step forward to explain, “When Deanna was unconscious, how could Mr. Eaton have the mind to handle any of this? What do you even understand, woman?

“Mr. Eaton, don’t fuss with a woman. Come on–let’s have a smoke. Cooped up in a ward all day, you’ll go stir–crazy.”

Deanna, afraid Violet would start spouting nonsense, smiled and told Luis, “I want to chat with Violet for a bit. You go.”

Once the men stepped out, Violet couldn’t help exhaling in relief.

What she’d said wasn’t wrong either.

If it were her–knowing the nanny had confessed–the first step would be to hold her tight and interrogate her.

But if she’d seen Deanna’s life hanging by a thread, then she probably wouldn’t have cared about anything else either.

Violet sat at the bedside and took Deanna’s hand.

“Deanna, what’s your plan now? Are you going to let them throw out a nanny and call it even?”

Violet thought of something. “After all, this happened at the Bluestone Pack birthday gala. You can’t wash the Bluestone people out of it. If you ask me, go all the way. Have Mr. Eaton wipe the Bluestone Pack out!”

Deanna lowered her eyes and thought for a moment.

When Luis was handling work, Deanna had overheard that Mooncrown Corporation would hold its annual corporate summit in a few days.

She vaguely heard during Aaron’s report that, because he’d announced their engagement, the summit was preparing to come down hard on Luis.

If at this moment, Luis, over her matter, took on the Bluestone Pack head–on with no just cause, and kicked up a huge storm, public opinion would turn against him.

Gerald pressed his lips together; seeing his father come out, he reined his temper in a notch. Harrison stepped forward, took over, and helped Carey into the sitting room.
