Luis's POV:
At night, I pushed open the bedroom door and found the woman on the bed already asleep.
She was lying on her side, hugging the sleep pillow she had recently bought. Her blue-and-white cotton nightdress wasn't sexy at all, but her calves had slipped out from under the blanket, glowing pale in the dim light like fine moonstone, smooth and luminous.
I softened my steps as I walked over and bent down, my large hand cradling her small foot.
It was really small, almost completely wrapped by my palm.
Her ankle was slender, her toes rounded, tinged with a healthy pale pink. Even in her sleep, they curled slightly, like a young animal drawing in its soft pads.
I set her foot back down and tucked the blanket around her.
After standing by the bed and watching her quietly for a moment, I bent down, pressed a kiss to her smooth forehead, then neatly placed her slippers by the bed.
After doing all this, I straightened up and prepared to leave the room.
"Where are you going?" A hoarse, drowsy voice drifted from behind me, heavy with sleep.
"Did I wake you?"
Deanna shook her head.
"I'm going to the living room. Go back to sleep."
Deanna's POV:
The light was too dim to see his features clearly. I only felt a pair of gentle eyes smiling as they looked at me.
Feeling a little awkward, I said, "Stay here tonight."
The matter with the photos should be put behind us.
Hearing that, Luis raised an eyebrow. "Deanna, are you sure?"
"If you don't want to, forget it."
I turned over stiffly. I had kicked him out last night, only to invite him back today. It really was a bit embarrassing.
"Heh."
A short, low laugh sounded in the quiet room.
I paused slightly.
When I first got pregnant, my relationship with Luis was practically on the verge of breaking.
I hadn't expected him to know what my early pregnancy had been like at all.
"How did you know I was picky with food early on?"
Luis pulled me into his arms, his strong arm wrapping around me. "Deanna, that time you had lunch with me at the office, you felt nauseous."
I thought back carefully. Right, back then, he had even snapped at me, saying I was deliberately trying to disgust him.
I poked the solid arm wrapped around me with my finger.
"Tsk, Mr. Eaton, how fierce were you to me back then?"
A barely audible sigh came from behind me. Then a kiss filled with apology and tenderness gently landed on the back of my neck. "Yeah, I'm sorry.
"At the time, I didn't know you were pregnant."
