Deanna's POV:
When Luis's kiss fell lightly against me, his warm breath brushed my ear.
Somehow, my heart softened completely.
We spoke in low voices on and off, and a warm, lingering atmosphere flowed through the room.
After a while, drowsiness slowly crept up on me.
The nights had been a little cold these past few days.
Last night, when I slept alone, the bed didn't really warm up until the second half of the night.
But now, in his arms, he was like a steady source of comforting heat.
That warmth didn't just come from his skin, but seemed to come from the strength of his pure-blood Alpha lineage and his stable energy.
Being completely wrapped in that warmth and sense of safety, sleepiness washed over me all at once.
I shifted unconsciously in his arms, found the most comfortable position, and soon drifted off.
In my haze, I vaguely felt an extremely light kiss land on the top of my head, along with a low murmur, "Good night, baby."
The next day.
I went to work as usual.
The Mistbane Pack's commercial division had recently been facing restructuring issues, and I was also preparing to gradually hand over the general manager position to a professional.
Because of all this, I'd been especially busy lately.
After several back-to-back meetings, I finally had a short break.
It was just then that I received a call I hadn't gotten in a long time.
I froze for a moment before answering.
"Mr. Faulkner, is something wrong?"
"Deanna, I heard you're still planning to hand Mistbane Group over to a professional management team. Do you have something else in mind?"
That executive had been recommended by Malcolm.
It wasn't strange that he knew.
I didn't hide anything. "My pregnancy is progressing. Later on, it probably won't be very convenient for me to manage the group myself."
There was a few seconds of silence on his end.
"I thought you were planning to leave Nordvale. Since that's not the case, if you need anything, you can come to me."
"Thank you." I was about to end the call.
"They can happen anytime. Today is a major event in your life."
A major event?
I was even more confused.
Seeing me still standing there dazed, Violet simply walked around the desk, grabbed me, and pushed me toward the door.
"Come on, come on. Stop thinking about it. It's a huge surprise anyway."
In the car.
I sat in the passenger seat, watching Violet drive with full concentration, and couldn't help asking again, "You're being so mysterious. What is it, exactly?"
Violet raised an eyebrow. "Don't ask. You'll find out soon."
When she refused to say more, I gave up. I took out my phone and sent my assistant a voice message, telling them to leave any documents that needed signatures for tomorrow.
As for the remaining two meetings, I asked the professional executive to host them in my place.
He'd have to get used to it sooner or later anyway.
My assistant quickly replied with an okay.
Once everything was arranged, I leaned back into the passenger seat and finally relaxed.
