Deanna's POV:

The werewolf bodyguards threw open the double doors to the private suite.

The hinges creaked loudly. A heavy wave of cigar smoke, bourbon, and alpha pheromones filled the hallway. It hit my nose so hard I nearly stumbled. My stomach turned.

In the middle of the room stood a glossy, oval gaming table. A roulette wheel spun hard across the felt. A woman in a backless red cocktail dress dealt chips at the center, her posture perfectly poised. Around her were sharp-suited men watching closely.

Grant and Luis sat at opposite ends of the table.

It was clearly a high-stakes private suite. That much was obvious.

The moment Grant spotted me, his face twisted into a broad, theatrical grin. He tossed the playing tiles in his hand onto the table with a snap. The scar by his left eye twisted when he smiled, making him look both charming and dangerous.

"Luis, one of my guys said your wife just arrived. Thought I'd be a gentleman and bring her in. You don't mind me borrowing her for a bit, do you?"

I stepped forward and met Luis's eyes.

He was lounged deep into the couch, his crisp white shirt rolled at the sleeves, showing those muscular forearms. A half-smoked cigar burned lazily between his fingers. Smoke drifted through the dim room, half-hiding his face.

He glanced up.

The second our eyes locked, his face twitched. Just barely. His brow tensed.

Then he spoke. His tone was flat. Ice-cold. "You're pregnant. Why aren't you home?"

It sounded cold and dismissive. Instantly, every man in that room turned toward me. Some looked amused. Others curious.

Grant narrowed his eyes. His gaze darted between us. A smug curl crept across his lips.

The woman in red chuckled lightly.

"Alpha, that's no way to greet your mate. She's carrying your child. Be nice."

Luis smirked and ran his tongue over his teeth. "Oh? Want me to be rough with you instead?"
