Luis entered and noticed his mate pouting, her eyes looking watery.

He moved closer, wrapped an arm around Deanna's waist, and asked gently, "What's wrong?"

She bit her lip. "I want to hold the baby."

She sounded totally wronged.

Luis paused for a second, then almost chuckled.

He'd been worried something big had happened.

It turned out that she just hadn't had a chance to hold their daughter.

So Luis looked at Kathryn. "Mom, let Deanna hold her."

Kathryn could refuse her daughter, but she couldn't say no to him.

After all, Luis wasn't only the Alpha of the Mooncrown Pack anymore. He held absolute authority in Nordvale. That alone made her awed.

Luis carefully took the baby from Kathryn and placed her into Deanna's arms.

The moment the baby settled against her, the hollow ache in Deanna's chest disappeared. Her brows relaxed, and a soft, happy smile curved on her lips.

Luis stayed close, one arm loosely around her, the other supporting her arms as she held the baby, like he was afraid she might be overwhelmed by the weight.

His eyes were deep and steady, with a light flickering at the bottom, fixed completely on his two girls.

Sunlight streamed in through the window, wrapping their little family in a warm, golden glow.

Kathryn stood off to the side, watching quietly.

Ever since the baby was born, she'd been coming by often to help, which meant she spent more time around Deanna and Luis.

By now, she understood how things worked.

If her daughter said a word, her son-in-law would follow through and make it happen.

If Deanna wanted the stars, Luis would probably try to grab the sky.
