Chapter 46 The Birthday Party
Deanna’s POV:
Philip clearly didn’t believe me. His tone was sharp, full of impatience.

“Why wouldn’t he want to? Everything seemed fine today. He even hired LA for your ceremonial gown. Jake is the Alpha of the Olsendreich Pack–he’s already done more than enough for you, Deanna. Don’t push it.”
“He thinks I’m dirty.”
“Dirty? Deanna, you’re nly daughter. The daughter of the Alpha of Mistbane Pack. What could possibly make you dirty?”
I made something up. “You don’t know this, but his pack looks down on me. They hate that you only bring me home twenty years. later. They think I don’t have the manners, the grace, or the character of Jillian, who grew up in the pack her whole life. They think I’m not good enough for Jake.”
Jake never said those words. But Barbara did–and more than once. Using them against Philip now felt perfect.
Philip’s tone softened a little.
“You’re my daughter. You carry my blood. Jillian is adopted. Be a bigger person and don’t let it get to you.”
Be a bigger person and don’t let it get to me?
I almost laughed.
He told me that all the time.
His actions always showed where his heart leaned.
Before, I let it slide.
Not anymore.
I pretended to go along. “I’m not upset. It’s just, I’m not good enough for Jake. My status is too low, and Olsendreich Pack doesn’t want me. You still have Jillian. Why don’t you make her Jake’s Luna instead of me?”
“Deanna! Admit it–you just don’t want to hold the ceremony with Jake!” Philip roared.
Then, after a pause, his voice softened again.
“Next month is your twenty–fourth birthday. This year, your mom and I will throw a party just for you. Everyone in our community will see you as our daughter.”
I couldn’t help but laugh.
Jillian and I were born on the same day.
Every year, the pack held a grand celebration for Jillian’s birthday.
When she turned eighteen, they spent millions on her coming–of–age ceremony.

It was a huge deal.
But ever since I was taken back into the family, things changed.
Kathryn didn’t want Jillian to feel overshadowed, and Philip didn’t want to look bad in public.
So they always throw the birthday party for Jillian.
Me? I’d get a simple meal with them the next day. That was it.
Eventually, I stopped bothering to show up at Jillian’s parties. I’d celebrate with Jake instead.
Except every time, Peggie just happened to fall ill and ruin it.
So in all my life, no one had ever truly celebrated my birthday.
gave Philip a careless smile and brushed him off. “Fine, but what about Jillian? We’re not twins. Having a joint party with her nakes me sick. And she sure doesn’t want it either.”
Don’t worry. We’ll celebrate hers the next day like always.”
didn’t even have to imagine how furious Jillian would be when she heard that.
The corner of my lips lifted. “You think she’ll agree?”
Leave Jillian to us. Your mother and I will handle it. You just need to behave and go through with the ceremony with Jake, lright?”
Sure,” I said flatly. “Ask Jake if he still wants me. Then we’ll see.”
Because deep down, I didn’t believe it. Jake would never want me once he knew I wasn’t pure anymore.
He was too proud, too arrogant.
