Chapter 49 Running Into Peggie

Chapter 49 Running Into Peggie

Deanna’s POV:

My cheeks burned, and I pretended not to get it.

What do you mean, How was it?

Violet rolled her eyes so hard it was a miracle they didn’t get stuck. She jabbed my arm.

+20 Free Coins

Don’t play shy with me. We’re best friends. I told you who my first time was with, the position we used, and all the details. And now you’re acting like this?

I coughed twice to cover my embarrassment.

That’s Violet for you.

Everyone knows she’s been aroundshe doesn’t need a megaphone!

So? How was it?She leaned close, whispering. Good? Was he amazing? Did it blow your mind?

My ears burned hotter than fire, but finally I gave a tiny nod.

Honestly, except for the first bit of pain, it had been incredible.

So good, I thought I saw a white light.

No wonder I kept going back to him.

fl mate with Luis a few more times, I might get hooked and never get enough of him.

Violet burst out laughing, almost falling over.

See! I knew it. Whoever said Luis was gay must be blind! If sharing a guy with my best friend wouldn’t be weird, I’d testdrive that body myself.

A vein popped in my forehead. Thank God she understood the concept of weird. If she really tried, I don’t even want to imagine the

awkwardness.

How many times have you two done it? Do you actually like him?She asked suddenly, her tone serious now.

Violet was my best friend. She knew me too well. I never treated relationships lightly. That was why I’d only ever been with Jake all these years.

I rested my chin on my hand and said calmly, I’m not jumping from one trap straight into another. Right now, I only care about getting my inheritance.

A man like Luis? I couldn’t risk it, and I wouldn’t gamble.

What a fool!Violet snapped.

Since when does sleeping with someone mean you have to love them? Why can’t it just be for fun? This is the modern world. Honestly, women should do it moreit’s good for your hormones. Just look at you. Your skin is glowing. I almost want to kiss you

myself.

She smirked. And Luis? At least the man knows what he’s doing. Girl, I think you should keep it going.

I rolled my eyes and let the topic drop.

For the next few days, I stayed at Violet’s place.

Since the bridal shop incident, Jake hadn’t shown his face once.

Philip also stopped bothering me. Maybe he was too busy chasing after Jake.

For once, I had some peace. My life was just work and scheming ways to force Philip to hand over those shares.

But Philip was a sly old fox, a man who only saw profit. Cracking him wasn’t going to be easy.

One afternoon, after a meeting, I walked out with my laptop in hand and ran into a coworker carrying a stack of files.

The folders spilled across the floor, and pain shot through my wrist with a sharp pop.

It was the same wrist Jake had hurt that day. I’d only just eased the pain with hot water soaks, and now the old injury flared up again.

The coworker turned pale and apologized over and over. I knew she hadn’t meant it, so I forced a tight smile and said, It’s fine.

Back in my office, the pain got worse. Typing was a struggle.

Finally, I left a few instructions with my assistant and drove myself to the nearest hospital.

The doctor said it was a sprain, almost a dislocation.

He gave me some antiinflammatories and an ointment, telling me to apply it every day.

Prescription in hand, I headed to the pharmacy. But just as I turned the corner, I froze. A familiar figure was walking toward me- Peggie.

She wore a hospital gown, her face still pale, a nurselike woman trailing behind her.

Across the long corridor, our eyes met. Her hostility was plain.

I didn’t bother hiding mine. I shot her a cold glare right back.
